Will a 458 SOCOM muzzle brake work on a .45 ACP?

I'm looking for a muzzle brake to extend my barrel on a HK UMP and i cant find any that have any length. However i might be able to find 458 SOCOM brakes that will do the trick. Will that work?

I don't the barrel diameters, thread/pitch are the same.

Can you shim an existing muzzle device?
How much length are you looking for?

        What's your barrel length?
Why do you need an extended barrel length for your pistol?

Barrel length is a required 16". I wanted to cut it down to reduce weight, reduce recoil, and from what i gather .45 acp doesnt need anymore than 12" to maximize it's velocity.

These are all excuses, but really i just like doing stuff to my guns.

I just thought that since a .458 SOCCOM is only slightly larger than .45, maybe a brake will operate fine with it. I just dont know though.

            Open up a . 308 brake?

What .45 upper do you have?

A .458Socom muzzle brake can work on a .45ACP rifle.

If you have your rifle's barrel length reduce to 12", the muzzle brake will need to be 4" or greater in length and will need to be permanently attached to the barrel.

Since you need 16" to be legal it makes sense to have the majority of that length as a real barrel.

a little longer to account for thread overlap... somewhere between .5"-.65"

If it will thread on your barrel, a 0.452" bullet will certainly pass through a brake intended for 0.458" bullets.

In general, shortening a barrel and replacing the barrel with muzzle brake length INCREASES the weight.
The barrel that you cut off is almost always lighter than the muzzle device that you install to make up for the length.
