    Great day at the range...

The weather in LA today was great. Sunny while hovering in the 60s. It was a good time to go to the range and I did.

I re-zeroed my 16” rifle (been switching around optics) and chronographed some loads in development for my 18” SPR gun. Having fulfilled my required activity, I proceed to shoot 80 rounds of factory loaded 77gr Sierra Matchkings on a 650 yards range. I’ve forgotten how much I enjoyed plinking at steel over 400 yards. After that, I practiced freehand shooting my 16” AR at 100 and 200 yards. Id left my sling at home. I sucked with a 50/50 hit rate shooting my range pickup reloads. I need to practice. Shooting seated, kneeling and prone though were gtg. I sneaked in a cycling and reliability of my HD ammo, 147gr HST +Ps on my bedside gun. 10 rounds ran flawlessly. Highly controllable and required little if any extra effort with follow up shots.

Major accomplishments - I’ve finalized my powder load for 75gr 223 Hornady’s. Next task will be to see if seating depths will have a meaningful effect on my groupings on a semi-auto rifle. My 69gr Nosler projectiles are again all over the place with velocities. I’ve used two different chronos and am getting the same see sawing results. I’m gonna overlay graphs from previous tests to check if the see-sawing is consistent to powder charges between different attempts. Im now thinking I have a bad lot or the projectile doesn’t like A2520. Gonna load some with Varget next.

I hope all of youse had a good time today, shooting or not.

AA2520 is a ball powder, ball powders have a large amount of deterrents that make combustion difficult. They get more consistent at higher pressures/near max loads.

I'd forget the ammunition before I forgot to bring a sling...

I use 2520 exclusively with my NMA2 and concur that upper loads work the best.
