Open carry in Sequoia National Forest?

Quick question for you guys that live in the Kern area. Going camping this year up in Kern off the river in the campground Fair View. Right next to McNally's. Planning on doing some hiking since it is my dad coming with and not my wife so I am curious as to whether I can open arm carry in the Sequoia Nat'l Forest? If so can you loaded open arm or do you have to be unloaded?

    Thanks in advance

Shouldn't be any problem. You aren't in an incorporated area. Kern County only has a prohibition on discharge in County Parks and the Forest isn't a County Park. 12031 should apply out there.

By my understanding it should be perfectly legal to Open Carry Loaded.

I carry open when I go up to the MT, especially during hunting season.

Yes, a.o.k. in the Forest. And it's actually Tulare county up there. Hinterlands of both counties really. Kern County sheriffs are good with it, same as Tulare up there. Considering the illegal pot farms up and the rash of animal encounters after the McNally fire, they're pretty reasonable about lawful well-behaved Carry. IIRC there was a cougar attack on a woman hiker east side of the river from your camp choice, in the Cannell district.
Visit the Ranger Office / Visitor center in Kernville to assure yourself. Although the wymyn working there don't seem to like guns much, they'll tell you the regs.
And take care if you drive up past Johnsondale to Trail of 100 Giants, I think that's technically part of the Seqouia Park, so no carry there.

You'll want to check the Condor Range lead ban as well. I haven't been up there in six months, and haven't really heard how the LEOs up there are using those restrictions. Don't know what if any distinctions they make between plinking, self-defense and the hunting regs banning lead. You may get screwed with just for the ammo you have with you, even if you don't intend to fire a shot.

Lead ban does not concern self defense.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."......Cicero

Ok, this is seriously off topic, but how do you create the service banner at the bottom of your post? Help out an old guy here who is seriously computer technology challenged!

National FORESTS are ok, people hunt so they carry guns and dogs too. always double check the laws to make sure though

Yeah, there as an attack on a women about 1 1/2 years ago under the bridge on the McNally side of the river (the bridge that is right behind the restaurant).

That's a new one to me, I hadn't heard of the McNally attack.
The cougar attack I'm talking about was up above the river valley, up Cannell Creek somewhere, closer to Kernville. Young woman and two men, swimming and hiking. She doubled back to the car for sunglasses and got jumped, mangy cat was dragging her into the brush by her head when her screams brought her companions running. All they had was a pocketknife and some rocks to drive the cat off with. She lost an eye has was horribly disfigured, got written up in Reader's Digest and elsewhere.
