    Ppt at big 5

So i called big 5 to ask about ppts as i have done a pot at one before in san diego, this one however is in temecula as id be meeting a guy from san bernardino. I called to make sure they could do it. The person one the phone said they could only ppt rifles that they sell? Ive never heard of that and i was told that a firearm dealer can not refuse a private party transfer unless the sale is illegal by either buyer or seller for some reason i.e one is a felon etc?

Ive never heard of any place dictating what ppt they do based on the firearm it is. Something doesnt sound very legal there.

A dealer who does not sell handguns does not have to PPT handguns. And in any case, who in their right mind would ever try to PPT anything at a Big 5?

Seen this a couple times here.
Apparently because they do not sell handguns they do not have to perform the PPT on handguns.

Go elsewhere like a mom and pop shop that wants your business.
Buy a box or two of ammo to show your appreciation.

West Coast Ammo or Faith Armory are close by and are open Sundays.

Yes i get that for handguns but for long guns, they shouldnt pick and choose what models or types they do based on what they sell.

And i only looked at them because they are open later then most other ffls, i was going to go and do a ppt today but turners would have been closed by then.

Put me on the list as they were nicer and quicker than most other stores.

One reason is their staff is probably not trained to discern what is a legal configuration and what is not a legal configuration in this F'd up state we live in, with lawmakers piling on new laws every year.

So one way to have confidence that the gun in question is legal, is if they themselves sell it.

Some SKS are legal and some are not, and some are banned by name. It takes someone who is familiar with the finer points to tell which is which, not something you are likely to find at Big-5. Also I am curious when the last time you saw a SKS for sale at Big-5 was - 10, 20 years ago?

The moral of the story is, don't go to the soccer ball store to PPT a centerfire semi auto rifle anymore.

No it was about 2012-2013 when they still had mosins, the one in solana beach had them and so did the oceanside one.
But the only other plus i see to big 5 is they are everywhere in comparisson to ffls, for example there is a big 5 within 5 minutes to my house, the closest other ffl is atleast 15 minutes away. But yea i figure that is the case, because she told me they can only ppt what they sell, and i think that rings true for handguns because they dont sell handguns, so she may have mis understood that, but to turn away a california compliant legal rifle. Like i could see why if someone wanted to transfer an AR that wasnt in compliance etc.

And btw i turned 18 in 2009, i bought a single shot shotgun and a mosin. And the only place i could see mosins or sks was at big 5 before i ever knew about duncans, i knew about turners but they didnt regularly keep them. And that was when mosins where like $89-109.
