    Polymer80 build deadline approaching...!!!

If you've been thinking about this you have a little time left but not much.

I think it's funny how guys post the penal code saying you can't or that you need to build it as a bolt action!

    Anyway, deadline approaching...!!!

What "deadline" are you referring to?

What dead line? The only thing happening is that you have to have a DOJ issued serial number.
Even then how would they know when you built it?

I got the impression from the OP that there's a "Polymer80 build deadline". As in: there's a deadline after which you cannot build a "Polymer 80" receiver.
Am I misunderstanding his thread title?

Yes there’s a deadline. The polymer80 stainless insert doesn’t meet the weight requirement.

Metal receivers aren’t affected so you’ll still be able to build your 1911’s, but the serial number will need to be issued to you where currently you can still choose your own.

It would be very foolish to build one without registering it. The comment about “how will they know”, is at your own risk, which I don’t recommend.

This isn’t like an old rifle that you inherited before long gun registration started. Polymer80 didn’t exist until recently!

Yes there is a deadline. After that cut it up and toss in trash. Or figure out how to put 3.7ounces of stainless plate embedded in polymer frame.

But if I have one with a plate self engraved #696969 I can keep it for a few years before completing?

No. You would need to complete it before July 1, 2018.

Applications submitted last fall are just now receiving approval letters.

It's been a while since I read the bill and penal code sections but you might have until the end of 2018 to submit the application, but the frame would need to have been completed before the deadline. There might be a 10 requirement from finish date to the date on the application, it's also one per 30 days. I forget most of the details but read the bill/penal code and find out for yourself. Keep a copy of the application.

Laser engraving should be done before the frame is completed, that way you can leave it with the engraver. I found a laser engraver in my area who did it while I was there. It turned out perfect.
