I'm going to take a trip to Tahoe/Reno. What can I purchase there legally and bring back?

No firearms UNLESS, you hold a valid FFL of some sort. With the exception of antique arms, either manufactured prior to 1899 or a replica thereof.

Without an 03 FFL you're pretty much S.O.L. when it comes to firearms. Parts and low-cap mags are about it.

You may bring back anything that isn't a firearm as per the BATFE with a serial number on it. However, you may try to buy a firearm that's legal for purchase in CA while in Reno provided that you have them SHIP it to your FFL in CA to complete the transfer as you would with an Internet purchase.

Additionally, please do not bring back any of the following:
          • Tracers/Incendiary Ammunition
          • Armor Piercing Pistol Ammunition
          • Ammunition loaded with flechette darts
          • Fully Assembled Large-Capacity Magazines/Belts that have the capacity to hold more than 10 rounds
          • Switchblade Knives with a blade longer than 2"
          • Multiburst Trigger Activators
          • Nunchaku
          • Metal Knuckles
          • Belt Buckle Knifes
          • Shurikens
          • Leaded Canes
          • Writing Pen Knifes
          • Cane Swords

Seriously, can I legally purchase in Reno and return to CA magazine rebuild kits for my crappy 1980's ramline mini14 highcaps?

Yes you can. Please promptly disassemble them completely once you get back to your vehicle and most certainly prior to driving back to CA in your car. Additionally, once you have rebuilt your mini-14 magazines, please make sure that at no point during the rebuilding process that you have more assembled large-capacity magazines than your started out with.

It would depend on which federal building you're refering to and when the flooring was laid. But most likely it has Linoleum not real tile.

I think he's suggesting that such a question might be posed by an BATFE plant .
