PPT (Private Party Transfers) have to be done face to face. There is no "MAIL" option.

I assume you're referring to long guns or on-roster handguns shipping to your local FFL for transfer, that you're buying from an out-of-state non-FFL seller?

It's always risky if you don't know the seller, and if you aren't using a site like Gunbroker. Even then, people do get scammed on GB.

Maybe you could ask the seller to deliver the gun to their local FFL for shipment, before you pay? The idea would be to use the FFL as a middleman to hold the gun for shipment before you send the $.

I assume you're referring to long guns or on-roster handguns shipping to your local FFL for transfer, that you're buying from an out-of-state non-FFL seller?

It's an on roster hand gun from a seller on here in Nor Cal. I'm in So Cal.

I was able to buy a CZ-82 from a fellow calgunner who had his FFL ship it to mine. It was pretty smooth except for the part of my FFL being kind of a dick. (Ended up having to switch FFL's on my behalf)

People do it all the time, on GunBroker and similar. It just depends on the gun, how valuable, how bad you want the gun, and how much risk you want. That said, I bet almost all sales are fine in the end.

Do you have any referrals on the seller, any feedback...Gunbroker, even Ebay or similar? Is he on Calguns? Pics for condition? Relatively new, w/ receipts? Are you a good judge of character? Does his "story" make sense?

Check the user's Calguns feedback rating to help give you an idea. Might also try calling and talking to them by voice. Other then that, my understanding is that all firearm shippment made in California must be from an FFL to FFL, on roster, and 30-day rationing rules apply.

There is no "modest" fee charging ffl that I know of and they will have to charge tax on the purchase amount. At that point you might as well just buy a new one.

He doesn't have to use a FFL. He can legally ship it direct to your FFL... If your FFL will accept firearms from a non licensed individual.

However a FFL can ship pistols cheaper than a non FFL.
