Just get a jeweler's screwdriver and use the tip to move the slotted nut around and around and around. You shouldn't need a $15.00 tool to do it.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong...

That works for removing the BB proper.

This appears to work on the 'finger guard' external portion.

I'm not sure how that's supposed to work; the hole in the lower for the mag release is 'oval'; turning a stuck external portion would seem to make that hole round, requiring some odd-shaped-compared-to-standard mag release.
Or, maybe I have that wrong ...

ETA - looks like I do have that wrong - the tool at the link is meant to be the 2-'pin' tool to unscrew the button itself. I had to look at the little video another six times.

Amen. And some rifle makers...like the boys over at Daniel Defense, love red loctite in a really unnatural way. Like how a boy from Kentucky loves his cousin.

I made a similar tool to get BB of my M&P10, don't think it cost that much.

Why remove it, i took a exact size drill bit. cut it to the right length. found a large short automotive vacuum plug that now goes over the button body with the bit installed. it works perfect on my featureless S&W 15. 10 seconds back to bullet button if i want to.

You could also use a cylindrical neo magnet. 6mm wide by 6mm long. I bought a 10 pack on ebay for like $2 shipped.

Yep. Just gave it a try with a small driver, even tried to tap the driver with a hammer. It ain’t moving. Don’t want to ding it up too bad.

Did not heat it with the soldering iron or heat gun. I’ll use the soldering iron when the tool arrives.

I’m removing it so I don’t have to register.
                        But that’s a creative solution.

I thought about using a magnet when I was considering keeping the bewlet button. But off it goes and no registering.

Indeed, there are many ways to address the bewlet button. Those mentioned here as well as others I’ve read on the webs.

                        Thanks for chiming in.

                        Good stuff.

All depends how it was installed. Some manufacturers seem to use liberal amounts of the strongest thread locker available and it can be damn near impossible to unscrew the damn thing. Fortunately DD was kind enough to not use anything and it unscrewed easily.
