I have my AZ CCW packet in hand...

Anyone recommend a NRA trainer in SD for the classroom portion? (I'm an experienced shooter with all my own gear.) Feel free to PM me.

    Thanks in advance!

Not in SD, but I did my AZ/Utah permit training at Torrance Sharp Shooters about 1.5 hrs N of your area.

It was quite fun. The class was small and we got to practice drawing from the concealed holster, and doing Mozambique drills on multiple targets with mag changes.

It was a far cry better than the pointless CA CCW qual of standing in front of a target at 3, 5, and 7 yards and blasting 24 rds at each distance through the same hole for each handgun being qualified

Just take a hunter safety class, probably quicker, cheaper and you can get a hunting license in CA as a bonus.

I just used my hunting class (actually gave them my hunting license info) and that worked.

I used my HSC and FSC. They sent me my card within 1 month of submitting. There are actually people that work for governments that actually work.

I sent it in with my DD214, got my CCW 3 weeks later. Good luck OP and congrats on pursuing the permit.

I like your username - that's what I'm working on.

The problem with that one is you still have to go through NICS check. Plus a lot more states recognize the state issued permit than the one you posted.

And isn't that a sad state of affairs.

I took a ccw class a couple months ago. It was $100, included all the paperwork and fingerprinting. All I had to do was get a passport photo for the Utah permit and a cashiers check to pay AZ. Received my az ccw last week and the ut permit came in the mail today.

That’s what I would recommend doing. It was quick and easy and the class was actually very informative. It was at guns fishing and other stuff, which I realize doesn’t help you, OP, but I’m sure there’s something similar down where you are.

Life happens, but I'm finally circling back around to getting this sorted out and submitted.

Turns out Cal Dept of Fish and Wildlife had my Hunter safety course on file and we as subjects...er..citizens are able to request to have our legacy record of Hunter safety training migrated to the online license system.

So, now, as Norcalsig alluded to, not only can I purchase hunting tags and licenses (already have my fishing license, which showed up there, too), but I should be able to use the info on my application, too.

Just need to look at my application again to see what form of training info they're looking for.

Out of curiosity, would a Utah ccw work as a "proof of training" for the AZ ccw?

Edit: Nevermind, looks like it will:
                              6. A valid current or expired concealed weapon, firearm or handgun permit or license that is issued by another state or a political subdivision of another state and that has a training or testing requirement for initial issuance.

                              Q. This state and any political subdivision of this state shall recognize a concealed weapon, firearm or handgun permit or license that is issued by another state or a political subdivision of another state if both:

                              1. The permit or license is recognized as valid in the issuing state.

                              2. The permit or license holder is all of the following:

                              (a) Legally present in this state.

                              (b) Not legally prohibited from possessing a firearm in this state.

                              Correct me if I'm wrong.
