    Another Ammo Bros thread.

We like to ***** about the stores where we had bad experiences. We don't talk that much about the ones where we consistently have good experiences, rare as it is. Well, I just had another good experience at Ammo Bros. In fact, I don't recall having a bad one there. They wre courteous (as usual), answered the questions I had, didn't mind spending the time on the private party transfer I initially came there for. In other words, they just provided the experience I've come to expect from Ammo Bros.

The downside? Last time I went there for a PPT, I ended up with two unplanned for handguns. This time it was a rifle (well, this one I was browsing for, but wasn't actively looking for it yet). What I'm trying to say is that even these days good customer experience pays. In fact, I only visit a few stores for PPTs now, and so those are the stores where I browse the inventory. What sets these stores (Ammo Bros, Gun King's Armory, Ade's, OC Armory) apart from the rest? Good customer experience, I like dealing with those people.

Just thought I'd give credit where credit is due.

If the customer service is good, I ususlly shop at the store regardless of the prices of the items.

Ammo Bros is a great store and every shopping or PPT experience there for me has been stellar. Brian the gunsmith there is a great guy, one of the most knowledgeable working general-gun store smiths I have ever met in CA, as is all of the sales staff.

                  Ditto

I am glad that mine wasn't an isolated experience then. I have dealt with them several times, both at shows and at their store, and found them to be always friendly and courteous (something quite rare in the gun business).

Mine is a bit of a good and bad thing.

I've been shopping there literally since they first opened, within the first week when they opened their doors. I was also the first guy to provide them with the early DOJ memo about OLL (mine was for DSA and Stag) when they were just thinking or in the early process of getting an 01 FFL.

With that background my opinion is highly biased. Their growth and subsequent expansion have been detrimental IMO. They were fair and honest when they first started out, but over the last few years I've noticed them doing little things that really bothered me. Marking items as something other than what it really was, taking parts that came with certain things and re-selling them, skimping on their on reloads to make more money.

I'm sure they seem like a decent shop to anyone that have used them recently and they absolutely are one of the better shops in Socal. But for someone like me that saw them when they first opened, experienced the amazing service and enthusiasm they (Darrin and Darryl) had and what they SAID they wanted to become; the store now is somewhat of a disappointment.

I just wished AB would have turned into another Ade's where the service might be a bit slow but people actually knew who you are and remember which customers are repeat business and have been loyal to them. This is all biased personal opinion so do not take it for gospel, just from my perspective. I missed going in their and just chatting with Darrin or Darryl and having them actually listen to their customers. Now all I see are aggressive salesman with high enthusiasm but also high pressure sales tactics.

Now all that is not to say anything negative about AB, I still stand by the assertion than overall their still one of the better shops in SOCAL. I certainly can't blame them for wanting to make a smack load of money and expanding their business. I just wished that they would have grown it a bit more measured and actually stuck to what they said they wanted to become.

Interesting perspective bobfried; thanks for that side of it.

I know them primarily from the gun shows. I have bought ammo from them for about 5yrs. and Darrin has always been friendly and helpful. One time he had his son use their dolly to take the ammo to my car. That was very helpful as most know I have a bad back.

I bought an OLL from him at the Ontario show last year and when I went to the store later to get it, I was treated nicely by one of the employees also.
