    Firearm Modifications During Waiting Period

Hi all, apologies if this has been addressed in a prior thread--a cursory search didn't bring up anything.

Wondering about the legal considerations of making modifications to a firearm while in the 10-day waiting period. Specifically, (1) if I'm purchasing a new handgun and am looking to get some slide milling done, could this be done during the waiting period? (2) Is the answer the same if I want frame work (the "receiver") done?

    Thanks in advance!

The gun isn't yours right now. If they mess with it and you don't pass the DROS, their stuck with a modified gun.

Shoot the gun first. Make sure it works.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

I believe the gun needs to complete the DROS in the configuration it went into the process in...

I purchased a RIA 1911 in 38 super via PPT last year. The previous owner had it two toned burnt bronze and black and it still had GI sights. While in the 10 day wait I had the LGS cerakote it all black and put some 3 dot night sights on it. No issues at all.

No modifications till you own it. As in your posession. If on roster any mods can make of roster.

Better to get a function baseline before you start doing mods. Even good manufacturers can send out a lemon once in a while.

Once you start cutting and trimming things, the factory warranty may be voided.

It's also good to know that it worked properly before doing mods, in case it has issues afterward . . . may help you figure out why it's happening.

Not a good idea in so many ways.^^^

I also doubt if any shop agrees to start cutting into or modifying your gun before it has completed the Dros process and legally released to you.

Now, if you know of a shop that does competent gun smithing work and returns the gun within 10 days, we would like to know of that shop.
