I want to state from the beginning this is not meant to be a "bash on LEOs" thread, so please don't go there.
So, my friend's house was broken into this past week. Thankfully, nobody was home at the time. The crook made off with several thousand dollars in electronic equipment, jewelry, etc. When the police came to talk with my friend he began telling the police the list of stolen items. The response he got was, "that's nice, but did they steal any guns? Cause that's what we really care about." To the relief of the P.D., my friend is not a gun owner and hence no guns were stolen. Once he told them that, they pretty much wrapped up their "investigation" by handing him some insurance forms and said good-bye. It turned out that a neighbor caught video of the perpetrator on his surveillance system. My friend informed the police of this fact and they pretty much yawned about it.
The moral of this story is twofold:
1) Make sure your guns are locked up so that it will be hard for a burglar to make off with them.
2) YOU must look out for your own safety, protection, and security. No government agency will provide you the security you can bring yourself through planning and preparedness. Don't expect the government to bring justice when you have been criminally wronged, and don't expect they will defend you in those critical moments where you might need it.
