    Front Sight

I am hoping to go to the Front Sight school near Las Vegas soon. Can you recommend a place to stay?

    Thanks in advance.

I've stayed at a couple of places in the Pahrump area, and the Saddle West is by far the best I've found. The sea food buffet on Friday nights is good, although I won't eat in the hotel restaurant any other time. There are a couple of Mexican restaurants in the area that are quite good, I'm afraid I can't recall the names. There also are some fast food places, including Panda Express.

I've also stayed at the Blue Diamond Inn once, and it was not the greatest. They have peacocks in the area, and they are quite loud at night.

It is a mistake, IMHO, to try and stay in Las Vegas itself. It's too far a drive, the highway is monitored fairly aggressively for speeders, and you'll likely be too tired after your class to do much in Vegas anyways.

Of course there are legal brothels near Pahrump, and once when I was desperate to find a hotel room I considered staying the night (you can rent just the room). I didn't do it, a bad idea for a married guy...

Best Western has a good breakfast and is okay with you OCing if you so desire, and that's where I stayed. I had the Buffet at Saddle West for dinner at some point, and they have a no guns policy (customer issues more than anything else). Rumor has it, though, that they prepare sack lunches for you if you're a FS student. Can't say for sure because I didn't stay there, but I definitely recommend Best Western.

What's up w/ the Front Sight certificates I see on ebay? Are they ok to use, or is it a risk?

Saddle West allows firearms in the room if you sign a waiver. The waiver basically says that you agree not to dry practice in the room.

The story I got from one of the instructors at FS is that a student had a ND in one of the rooms and luckily, the guy in the adjacent room only received a hole shot through the pants he was wearing. Lucky guy.

ETA: I stay at the Best Western. It costs a little more than the Saddle West, but the included breakfast is good and it's quieter without a casino.

I was down there for Frontsite training when that ND happened. I was across the street at the Best Western outside talking with other students and we could clearly hear the shot. Thus the waiver now required.

Best Western is the way to go. Pretty good breakfast and reasonable rates.

Right. I'm not saying you can't bring guns there at all. But BW is literally cool with you OCing or CCWing (or dry firing) there.

                          Sort of a thread hijack

Since the topic of Front Sight came up,
                          I have a question.

I was considering going to take the 4 day practical rifle course at some point this year.

For those of you who have gone, do you recommend taking the course with iron sights, or using your optics? (I have an ACOG ECOS)

Thanks, sorry for the hijack, but since we were on the topic of Front Sight I thought I'd ask.

                          B.

So, Just what is the closest brothel?
What are the room only rates?
Any clsoe to FS than the Best Western?

                            Never mind, not worth it!

Just curious as I'll be there April 3rd-7th for the 4-day defensive handgun class...

Re hotels - book well in advance! I waited until early March to book, and I could only get a Pahrump area hotel (BW) for the last two nights, staying at the Silverton for the first two.
