Need gun drilled for scope mount in SoCal

I have a Ruger Mark II .22 pistol that I'd like to get drilled and tapped for a scope mount. I live in the San Fernando Valley, any recommendations for a gunsmith would be appreciated. I called King's Gun Works out in Glendale, but they're backed up for two weeks and they want $75 to do the service. Is this what I should expect to pay?

I do have access to a vice, drill press, tap, etc., but I'm not sure if this is something that is worth possibly screwing up a perfectly good pistol over. Anyone do this procedure themselves?

If it's going to cost me $75, I'm tempted to just go out and "invest" another $200-$300 and buy another .22 that already has been drilled. I don't know, any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Have you thought about using the SoLow rings? They are specially designed for the Ruger MK series of pistol and they CLAMP on to your upper assembly without any modification, and from what I have heard, they do not damage it, not even the finish, when installed properly. The only problem is they are of a one piece design, so only 1" red dots (or was it 30mm?) can be used. I would assume if you have a scope that could be taken apart at the bell you could put it on also (like the German's did in WWII) but if you are not comofortable drilling/taping then I would assume taking apart an optic would be too much as well.

Neat sight ring!

I tend to shoot the heck out of my Browning Buckmark with its 1x scope and the Smith and Wesson 422 with its red dot. A .22 LR pistol with a fine scope is a great way to spend an afternoon. I need to pay more attention to my poor un-loved Ruger.

Nice collection there. .22's have become my favorite to shoot, and if I couldn't get my Mark II drilled for a reasonable price, I was going to start shopping for a Buckmark.

I'm going to try out those So Low mounts, figure for $45 shipped, it sounds like they will work out fine. My only concern is whether they will hold a zero, although the website says they do perfectly.
