Roster strikes again - cops indicted

Two police officers indicted for dealing off-roster handguns without a license. This is another unintended consequence of the roster. It is time for the roster to go.

Two Gardena police officers have been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of using their position to acquire firearms and illegally selling more than 100 of the weapons to others, including a convicted felon.

Maybe find cops who can actually obey the law first.

The 25-page indictment alleges that from 2015 to September 2017, the two officers exploited their positions to deal 101 firearms to people barred from owning or selling such weapons unless they are in law enforcement or the military. It marks the latest move by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to curtail the abuse of special privileges afforded police officers in purchasing firearms.
A bit of FUD tossed in? Yea, felons can't have any guns, but it's untrue that the off roster guns can only be owned by LEO or mil.

And while I don't feel bad for these cops that broke the laws I do think the laws are pretty stupid.

If you find yourself in a fair fight, you're doing it all wrong.

Makes me wonder how many more CA LE are under quiet investigation by the BATF/US DOJ?

I imagine the three recently charged aren't the only ones they're aware of.

I read the article looking for calguns, but nope! Lol

The details in the story are strange.
Selling through Instagram and gun shows?? Wut?

Fernandez purchased that were not available to the public, according to the indictment.
Must be .38 super. So maybe Dan Wesson Guardian chambered in .38 Super ? Why not 9mm if he's flipping them unless these guns are destined for Mexico.

Arao, of Eastvale, obtained off-roster weapons from the inventory of Ronin Tactical Group, the indictment alleges. Through messages on Instagram and other means, Fernandez and Arao negotiated prices and terms of firearm sales, and accepted payment for the guns once they were delivered, according to the indictment. The pair would also market off-roster firearms at gun shows.
We need to ban Instagram now! for the children.

Gun show marketed off roster sales? What does that look like? A guy with a cardboard sign around his neck proclaiming off-roster mostly Colt .38-caliber handguns for sale message the38superman for price?

Unintended consequence? Yeah, probably, who would ever think that the cops would exploit the Roster in order to make a (significant) profit between the "cop price" and the street price of firearms not available to the average California gun buyer? The real crime isn't that they were selling off Roster guns, it was that they got greedy and were selling more than 5 firearms per year in "private sales", and therefore were engaging in the unlicensed sales of firearms.
