just bought 2 Colt 6920 complete lowers recently, they look like the second picture.. some guy at the counter was saying ''you cant gets colts lowers in ca.'' I just laughed at him came back in a week once they shipped in to start the paper work with the owner. Asked him ''what happened I thought we couldn't get these?'' he just shrugged it off. Haha

Out of curiosity, which gun stores were they? I hate shopping at ill informed shops. My go to shops are Gunfighter Tactical and HoneyBadger Firearms.

Purchase a grip fin, fixed buttstock, and remove the flash hider. Install these items before coming into California and when you leave the state again, they are all easily removable. You can leave you mag release as is, but make sure you have the aforementioned items installed. This makes your rifle featureless as per California law.

It pains me to say this OP, but if you're only here for a year... leave the Colts at home. It's just not worth the hassle and it's really hard to get straight answers as you already found out. There are plenty of threads on this stuff here, but jeeeeze do you really want to slip up on some ridiculous detail and have some snot-eating a-hole at the range tattle on you?

Aren't the colts sold here labelled like 6940 or something like that. Same thing just different model number. Like how the Arsenal SGL is banned but the SLG isnt (or vice versa cant remember). Identical in every way except the model number.

No. 6940 is the model number for the version that comes with the free floated steel handguards and flip up front sight.
