Bring in gunlock, have them sell it back to me?

I've gone through the archives and everyone's simplest solution to the gunlock law is: buy one at Walmart and return it later. What's to say you can't bring in your own lock, give it to the store, and have them sell it back to you for $1, or 10 cents, or whatever. Thoughts?

Couple of gun shops sold me the DOJ approved locks for $.99 when I bought pistols.

i bought a gun at a shop and they just threw one in for free. i though he was gonna charge me so i asked him about a safe affidavit. his response was that he didn't need to know about anybody's business and that the lock was free.

I did a transfer @ Tabor's the other day. The lock cost $3.95.
I paid it, and life went on.

Great place to do business BTW.

              This should be a system...

You bring in your gun lock, still in the packaging, you donate it to the store, and the store sells you somebody else's donated lock for a penny. Or, you sell your lock to the store for a penny, and they sell it back for a penny.

I bring in my gun case with my own lock and it's a done deal. No lock to buy.

                Done this numerous times.

If you bring in a lock, you must provide a receipt showing you purchased it within 30 days. So I would not use the lock you brought in and gave or even sold to me to satisfy the FSD requirement.

However, you could always give me a lock and I could give you a different lock. The law is clear you cannot bring in a lock to use for the transaction without a receipt. Bring in a lock you are not using for the transaction should be fine.
