There's an interesting video comparing clear ballistics with traditional FBI 10%, a round goes through much deeper with clear ballistics compared to the other not saying it's no good just interesting.I looked into getting some gel. The easiest type to work with is the clear gel stuff. I think it is polymer/plastic, and not something that rots or goes bad.
There is some youtube videoes on how to regenerate the block.

Yea, I know it isn't the same, but it is close.
Clear gel is supposedly stable over a larger temperature range than regular ballistic gelatine.
Lucky Gunner website tested a lot of different brands of ammo in clear gel. If you click on the green "penetration depth" chart for each bullet a window will pop up showing the actual clear gel with embedded bullets.
