Tell you what Fate and Vin, let me know when its you guys when you do a ppt and I'll make sure to break any time record for you two. Hell I'll even take my lunch break in the middle of it. Everyone else will get the standard twenty minute PPT. Its probably been twenty minutes and friendly for everyone here but that doesnt make a good story to ***** on callguns.
I can imagine it now though. Turners toppling over and culgunners jumping on top of the sign smacking it with their shoes

I am definitely not a Turners basher, as a matter of fact I have always stood up for them, but the truth is Turner's is horrible for PPT. I have done 3 there and have never been out in under an hour and on the 4th was told it would take 3+ hours to happen as they were expecting some consignment pieces in and I would have to wait till they got there and were entered. Even though no one else was in the store yet, and the guns were not even there.Tell you what Fate and Vin, let me know when its you guys when you do a ppt and I'll make sure to break any time record for you two. I guess the fact that within 5 minutes of the Turners where I live there are 2 other FFLs, that have never taken over 15 minutes. I just avoid them like the plague for PPT items.I think it can be confirmed that an alien xenomorph is absolutely no match for good ole' Alabama black snake!

Maddog, I would have less bad to say about Turners if every large purchase I've done there didn't involve major issues. After 4 epic failures by Turners during these sales, I finally took my business elsewhere.
Picking up a firearm after the 10 day wait should not involve discovering that the original gun you bought and DROSED was sold and transferred to someone else during the wait and you have been given a different gun instead. This happened to me TWICE at the Pasadena Turners.
And now you offer me more special treatment? Sorry, I'll pass.sigpic "On bended knee is no way to be free." - Eddie Vedder, "Guaranteed"

King of the hill I was at Oaktree yesterday and I don't know where you were looking for guns but the cubbords are bare there too. They have some consignment stuff and a half a dozen pistols worth buying and some nice rifles. They have 4 or 5 LEO only pistols in the case.
What they do have that is surprising is some Benelli M2 tacticals for sale.
Turners doesn't have any guns for the same reason Oaktree doesn't have any guns for the same reason other gun stores don't have any guns. The distributors don't have any guns, or ammo to supply the stores.
As far as Turners goes with their adds, there's no reason to spend money for an add when you don't have anything for people to buy.
Some body said Turners will be out of business in 6 months I hope not we need local gun stores.Last edited by randy; 03-21-2009, 1:27 AM.I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

I've bought 3 guns new, at retail in the Reseda Turner's over the last 6 months. No issue with any of these transactions and I liked the person I dealt with, Travis.
I witnessed a lady purchase her first gun there and she was treated deferentially and without any condescension. She bought an M&P in short order.
I agree that ads to discount items people are already lined up to buy are a waste of time.
It seems to me that Turner's, amongst some others, gets bashed for it's slow handling of PPT's. While they may be legally required to do them and we can go on about how they need to cater to "enthusiasts" and we won't be spending our $30K gun budget there next year, the fact is, PPT's are a PITA and not what any retail gun store is around for.
They survive based on inventory and price. If Turner's bight the dust, does anyone think guns will get cheaper?Comment

I've resisted dogpiling on turners in the past, but i swear to god the last time I was there I left thinking the management was crazy for their hiring selections.
I came into a turners I've bought plenty of new guns from to do a ppt with a shotgun forgeting it had a sidesaddle covering the serial #. The three guys behind the counter got such unbelievable pleasure out of not helping me. I was the only customer in the store and they looked at my like I had asked for a turn with their girlfriend when I asked if I could borrow a allen wrench. They said "we aren't gunsmiths, go to a hardware store". While I was out looking in my car for tools, the buyer walks in and hears them talking smack about the gun he was about to buy and laughing about getting out of doing a ppt for me.
Great customer service= customer loyalty
passible service= some customer loyalty (if the sale price is right)
Hostility to your customer= I keep my money and trash you on the internetLast edited by smogcity; 03-21-2009, 6:45 PM.Comment

The only Turners I have shopped at is the old Riverside one (closed and moved to Corona). I have purchased 2 long guns and one hand gun from them over the years. I never had a problem with any of the employees and found them to be very helpful.
As a matter of fact, IIRC, Maddog handled the purchase, which was a Browning Buckmark I bought from the gun show/fair they sponsor in Corona (I can't spell the darn place, but you guys know which one [starts with a "R"]).
I had previously bought 3 Surefire flashlights from him, so I knew the process would be a pleasant experience. Maddog was friendly and professional the whole time.
To top it off, I had some major problems with the Buckmark and brought it back. The mgr. at the time asked me what I wanted him to do and said he wouldn't let me leave the store without being happy. He said they could send the gun in to be fixed, they would get me a new Buckmark or I could get a completely different gun. I ended up getting my Ruger MK III.
He didn't have to do that, but he wanted to ensure I'd be a happy customer and I was.
So, thanks Maddog and thanks to the former mgr. (I hope what he did didn't make him the former mgr.).Comment

Retired, nice to see somebody misses me. PPT's are the hardest transaction we have to do to stay in business. It requires twice the paperwork. twice the tracking and when you toss in some of the other twist .like the buyer not qualifying and the parties not bringing in the correct information to do the transaction, and don't forget the guys that show up 10 minutes before you close and you have put in a 12 hour day and they get upset because your not smiling when you help them. Guess how many add on sales we make from someone selling a friend a gun and they hate the process. I could go on with a lot of other issues. lets just say we like doing them as much as you like being forced to do them.Comment

I believe turners stock issues have to do with them being a common and comfortable feeling store for first time buyers. Every person i know that has decided to buy a gun, the first store they went to was turners. With the recent upsurge in first time purchases, it only makes sense that turners would be selling A LOT of guns.
Think of it this way, if you were trying to get into hippie foods, would you go to a hole in the wall health food store that is packed with "in the know" hippies, or would you first start by going to trader joes?Comment

Good observation... that, and as Walmart's success shows, 90 percent of the population shop on price only.I believe turners stock issues have to do with them being a common and comfortable feeling store for first time buyers.
