    First Gun At The Range =]

    Hey CalGuns Crew! So as some of you may know, I purchased my first gun. Have shot many times with friends, but never had my own.

    Well I bought the RIA 1911a1 gi issue, .45 caliber
    Disassembled and cleaned it last night, then my buddy and I hit the range today after work. Put right around 200 bullets through the gun. Some casings did show up with 1 tiny dent each. A few had no issues, is that normal with first time range visits? I plan on cleaning the gun this weekend, so I'm going to look carefully at the internals. But I hope there isn't an issue already that will hurt me in the long run.

    ANYWAYS, felt pretty good but I definitely want to do the typical pistol grip upgrade, and also that like beaver tail beneath the hammer. For now I'm still focusing on gun and trigger control. Was able to stay on target pretty well at anywhere from 5 to 10 yards. here's a pic and can't wait to meet some of you folks at the Secret Zombie Shoot =]

        Thank you sir, that lower catastrophe was me pulling the trigger. Then a gentleman next to me mentioned that I should lightly pull the trigger right up til it's about to actually fire. Got the feel for where that "border" was, and my groupings on the sticker target got A LOT better lol.

        Also used to shooting 9mm's and this .45 definitely has some kick, but I know the more trips I go on, the more comfortable it will feel :P

            Refreshing to hear someone bought a 1911 for their first instead of the usual Glock, M&P etc.
            I remember shooting other people's stuff but when I got my own gun it just meant so much more. It was a 1956 S&W 38 special, 27 years ago, still have it.
            1911's are like AR's, very customizable.
            Hopefully you've joined the NRA and CRPA?

              Picked up a RIA 1911 tac 5 a while back. I just love it. I did put rose wood dbl diamond grips on it. To me it is as nice a 1911 as much more expensive pistols. It fires cheap ammo and mags reliably. Love that crisp ,light trigger pull.

                Enjoy your firearm. With only 200 rounds there is no need to clean it yet. Shoot it some more then clean it. Maybe 1000-2000 rounds.

                    I was actually an NRA member for about 5 years in my early 20's (30 now) and let it lapse for a number of years. But yea, I'm pretty sure this time around I'll be joining the CRPA just because. It's all one great organization anyways

                            Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the club!

                            As for bent brass on a new gun, it can happen, sometimes guns need to break in a bit, after 1000 rounds or so you'll probably see less issues.

                            If after 1000 roundsit's still doing it, you may want to bring it to the shop for examination.
                            while (bullets > 0 && target == 1){fire == 1;}

                              Congrats on your purchase. I agree with your decision to focus on trigger time before upgrading. As for slightly dented brass, don't worry about it.
