There is never a good time to alienate your customer base. Crossover sales are significant in the sporting goods industry, the customer that buys a softball might also buy a pair of sunglasses, a fishing pole may net a box of ammo, etc.Comment

Did the dealer that sold the truck that killed 84 in France stop selling trucks? It's the same thing."Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill
"I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue!" - Senator Barry GoldwaterComment

Agree; but the truth is, this simply won't be good for them. Likewise, retail is a fragile industry at the moment; look no further than specialty stores like Toys-R-Us shuttering 735 stores this week (all of them) into bankruptcy, Sports Authority having gone by the way-side (ironically, purchased by Dick's) among many of the standard department stores suffering losses such as Sears, Kmart, JC Penney, Macy's and on and on.
It's too soon to judge, but I think the real impact will be felt as such stores like Dick's actually perform well in the summer due to sports; that will hit them, and if people still feel this way by the time hunting season and Christmas, that will be the real testament to whether their Anti-2nd Amendment positions have hurt them or not.
I think it will, and it will be significant, but as musick says, today's news appears to be as much a gradual part of their ongoing slide as any other retail-store is suffering at the moment.

Their decision cost them
It was their choice and their consequence
Conservatives can boycott as well and the big difference is that we spent money in their stores, Those antifa SJW types don't buy sporting goods and the soccer moms that threatened Dicks with boycottswon't make up the losses either.sigpicNRA Benefactor MemberComment

Keep up the pressure. Don't go there for anything.... Well, maybe to use their restroom.sigpic

IMO
Dick's was definitely on the decline, everytime I walked into their store it was dead. But this last PR stunt was the Cherry on top and could be the final nail in the coffin.
People who scream loud make the most noise, and idiots buy into the hype. Just because news outlets and celebrities are trying to pressure you into a false moral high ground doesn't mean that's what the majority feel. Especially coming from the nutty democrats the past year and a half.

It's a mistake for several reasons (besides not understanding their Conservative customer base), including:Their decision cost them
It was their choice and their consequence

1) guns/ammo have higher margins than much of the remaining sporting goods they have available to sell; and
2) gun/ammo sales do not face direct competition from Amazon.com (which is not a FFL, without brick-and-mortar local infrastructure).
When folks can't or won't buy guns/ammo from them, and 99% of their non-firearms sporting goods offerings can be undercut by Amazon.com ... well, that's just a losing business model.

i doubt they realize that the very people who they tried to satisfy aren't the people who buy from them in the first place - those people search out all 2A friendly establishments, then try to turn them against their own customer base
all they did was alienate themselves from actual customers
the people doing all the protesting don't shop there anywayOriginally posted by BarangI! hate! you! FalconLair.

Possible Dicks could turn things around. Dicks could run an advertising campaign apologizing for their mistake, and making efforts at amends by re-stocking the nixed items, and stating they will sell again to persons of legal age (18), offering a great sale, and making a point of asking for the forgiveness and support of the shooting community.
Hey, it could happen, possibly, maybe.
Though not likely.Comment
