    Interstate Intrafamily Transfer Bull

People complain about Turners. The clerks there make more than there share of mistakes, but I almost couldn't believe what I witnessed a clerk telling a customer during this afternoon's visit to one of Orange County's "premier" guns stores. The guy's father lives in Arkansas and he asked the clerk if his dad could give him an off roster pistol. The clerk told the guy that his father could do that if he moved and became a resident of California. Otherwise, he would either have to buy an on roster handgun or pay a thousand dollars or more to get one an a PPT.

When I interjected, and I only did since this customer had actually interrupted the clerk showing me some pistols, that he only need to make arrangements for his father to ship the gun directly to a CA FFL, another store clerk jumped in and tried to make it sound as if that couldn't be done, because the gun had to be sent to a CA FFL. He slinked off when I agreed, but that depending on the CA FFL's policies this guy's dad could ship the gun directly to the CA FFL or have it shipped by his local FFL to the CA FFL.

I thought it pretty slimy. They were clearly trying to convince the guy, who didn't appear to be fat with cash, that it would be a lot less costly to buy an off roster firearm from them at their inflated prices.

They would have been correct, if the gun wasn't to be a gift from the young man's father. Forgive the rant, but I have no use for people that that gun store clerk.

    AFAIK...
Turner's policy is not to do out-of-state intra-familial gift transfers.
So, their employees are encouraged to steer people away from that and to convince the person asking to buy something they sell instead.

If he is the real father. No step dads. Also has to be through a FFL here in California.
May I always be the type of person my dog thinks I am

My apologies for the confusing post of mine, but I meant to complain about some of the things a clerk was saying at a so called premier LGS, which was not a Turners. What he was saying struck me as not being out of a misunderstanding of law, but a desire to talk his customer out of getting an off roster pistol and to buying an on roster model from the particular LGS.

Yes. How to do so is discussed ad nauseum on the Calguns.com How CA Laws Apply to/Affect Me forum. Check it, but off the top of my head:

            1. You cannot give him the money to buy a firearm in his name for you.

            2. If he got it for himself, he can give it or even sell it to you. I THINK BUT SOME DO NOT AGREE that a family member can sell it to you via the interstate intrafamily exemption from the roster. Do not rely on my opinion.

            3. You cannot bring it into the state after acquiring it outside of CA. Some CA FFL's will not permit your Father to send it to them, but will require it to be sent to them from a FFL in your Father's state.

            4. If your Father is visiting the state, some FFL's will allow him, NOT YOU, to bring it to their place of business.

            5. The intrafamily rule does not apply to all family members. GF to GC or back. Parent to Child or Child to Parent.

            6. This is NOT a California PPT (Private Party Transfer) and the Licensee's transfer fee is negotiable.

            7. There will be a DROS and you will pay DROS fees to the State.

            8. If you want to do one of these, find a FFL in your local that understands how to do an interstate intrafamily transfer. Discuss how the do them, fees, and what they need from your family member. If they tell you to just file an OPLAW you are talking to the wrong FFL.

A couple years ago befor the BLM shooting spot at perris got shut down. My friend took me their for the first time (totally ghetto place LOL). A few mins later these dudes parked right next to us. Pretty young, in their early 20 (he said he just started community college) The guy actually worked at the Orange Turners location and kept bragging about being a salesman there..

He had an AR, totally in illegal configuration with a 30 round pmag. He said his grandpa bought it before any of the laws and bans came so he was technically "grandfathered in" and didn't have to use a bullet button, or go featurless, and was able to use regular mags. He thought in his own mind he could have a free state configured AR because his grandpa gave it to him like that

Total FUD, the whole time he was just making up these ridiculous things that were made up and false and would cause someone to end up in jail.

I ended up going to Turners shortly after for something and lo and behold he was there behind the counter spreading false info on stuff to people looking to buy.

Turners is a dangerous store if you aren't up to date with current laws. They will feed you wrong info and act like its true. This goes on at every turners store I've ever been to.
