    Calguns marketplace question

    Evening all -

What is typical/recommended for arranging funds in the Private Sales - Handguns area? I assume it would be cash at the FFL, but i haven't made a purchase from a private party.

There is a firearm that I indicated interest in but the seller indicated it was SPF. That was last Thursday. I guess i would have thought the deal was done by now (unless maybe the seller didn't update the thread?).

    Thanks much.

Cash at the FFL is typical.
Many sellers do not update their ads but you could always send him a PM if you wanted to verify.
Sometimes it takes a few days to find a convenient time for both parties as well.

Cash is exchanged at the FFL. I think only a scam would require money before meeting.

If it’s marked spf seller probably forgot to update. Wouldn’t hurt to direct message seller to confirm what’s going on.

There's always some nit-wit who says cash in hand like it means something special.

        Inspection, payment, paperwork.

That's pretty much the only way we do business around here.

Lol. Thanks, good to hear all of that. Pretty much what I assumed. I did PM the seller; maybe just busy back and forth to the range...

Sometimes SPF can take a week or even two or three to conclude. Some sellers are willing to wait for solid, reputable buyers to travel to them, or for the seller to travel to buyer.

I have had more than a few deals go SPF and then take weeks to complete, but it was all understood up front.

                    Others have already answered but I'll add to the SPF;

had a buyer pay me in payments for a high-dollar item. Told him he can take as long as he needed since I was not in a rush for any money. Think the ad was SPF for over a month and a half?

As others have said; inspection, cash, paperwork.

Although, there have been instances where I’ve received cash after paperwork.

Sometimes FFLs will be funny about making the actual cash transaction in front of them or in the store. Most shouldn't, but some like Turner's may be weird about it. They had me exchange the money outside.

I found it weird that they wanted me to exchange money in the parking lot like a drug dealer which was apparently preferable to breaking an imaginary DOJ rule.

This is what a buyer typically needs for a handgun PPT:

Buyer responsible for $35 PPT fee (unless stated otherwise)
                            Have HSC or FSC
                            CDL (CA Drivers License)
2nd proof of residency (same address as CDL) > Car registration works
                            Cash payment to seller

Also, buyer meets seller at FFL and is committed to the transaction but has the right to inspect it to make sure it's in line with what the seller disclosed about the firearm. If you have questions, PM & ask the seller. Don't assume anything.

                              Payment always before dros started.
