    870 Mag Fed AOW Question

I'm wanting to build another 870 AOW, but this time I want it to be mag fed. My only question is, can I buy the new Remington 870 Tac-14 DM, have it go to a middle man out of state to remove the barrel, then have the receiver sent to my local FFL? I don't know of any other pistol grip only 870's that are mag fed.

    Nope.
This is because of CA unsafe handgun laws, CA unconventional pistol laws, and CA SBS laws.

A firearm with a less than 16" barrel length is a "handgun".

Since the Remington TAC-14DM is not listed on the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale and meets CA's definition of a SBS & an unconventional pistol, a CA FFL dealer can not legally transfer it (completed firearm or just a receiver) to you as a "handgun" unless a multiple exemptions are utilized.

    However...
The receiver could be transferred as a "long gun" (shotgun, receiver).
This would need to be kept as an incomplete firearm and you could not legally possess a less than 18" barrel for it, until you obtained BATFE approval for a Form 1 ($200 tax stamp) to make it into a Title 2 AOW.
After you obtained BATFE approval to make the AOW, you would then have to build it as a dimensionally compliant bolt-action single-shot pistol.

    Alternate method...
You could buy a Remington TAC-14DM, have it shipped to an out-of-state 07-FFL/02-SOT, pay them to make it into a Title 2 AOW that meets SSE2, and then have it shipped to your CA FFL dealer, who transfers it to you after you get approval for a Form 4 ($5 tax stamp) on that Title 2 AOW.

Title 1 Other Remington TAC-14DM made into a Title 2 AOW Remington TAC-14DM = change "shockwave grip" to pistol grip, which makes the overall length less than 26".
SSE2 for Remington TAC-14DM = install a fixed 0 round magazine/sled, that can not be removed without disassembing the firearm's action.
^A few CA FFL dealers will then transfer it under SSE2, due to it being argued that it's a dimensionally compliant "bolt-action" single-shot.
*There's no CA legal definition of what is a "bolt-action", so a "pump-action" can be viewed as a type of "bolt-action" since it requires the use of a handle to operate the bolt.

We can really still have that in CA? It seems impractical as heck, but I think I need one just for laughs.
