Real ID and Firearm Purchases

I just became aware that as of January 22 DMV was issuing driver's license cards that would come with the stamp "Federal Limits Apply" in the upper right hand corner. This is in reference to the federal "Real ID" law passed in 2005 or 2006. This type of driver's license cannot be used as identification to DROS a firearm. When renewing your driver's license, do it in person at DMV, bring a passport or birth certificate, proof of residence like a utility bill with the physical address, and your social security card. If you changed your last name due to marriage, you will need a certified copy of the marriage license.

A driver's license that is Real ID compliant will have the kalifornia grizzly bear in the upper right hand corner.

Also one cannot use a non-Real ID compliant driver's license to board an airplane...Passport may be used to fly.

If you renew your driver's license at this time and do not submit the Real ID documents you will receive a new driver's license that states Federal Limits Apply and you will not be able to fly. If you have a driver's license issued before DMV was doing the Real ID stuff then you can fly because it will not the above statement on it.

How is it that I have to jump through hoops and hurdles to get a compliant ID, but a State Voter ID card is always shut down because it puts undue burden on the poor?

I swear, the insanity of this state is the latent culprit of everything wrong in this country.

Why doesn't California just use the documents it already has on file. When I moved to California 30 years ago I had to provide my birth certificate and social security card to get a California license.

Because they want us to give up and take the non-real ID so we are the same as their illegals. There will be no way to tell the difference from citizen or non-citizen. And they just love the surprise on your face when you try to purchase a gun with it.
