All complete pistols, rifles, and complete uppers are test fired before even being sold to anybody. So in essence all guns are used. -
Not very relevant to CA, but machine gun dealers routinely test fire machine guns, as do many buyers. A lot of machine guns don't run very well, so coughing up eight grand or more, waiting 9 months for approval, then finding out your gun doesn't work for crap is not a good situation.Comment

if I were an FFL, I would think it's only fair to mark the pricetag on the gun as a demo and knock a couple bucks off.
not sure what the law requires as far as marking the gun "new" vs "used"my Benitez goes to 11Comment

I sell a lot of stuff as demo marked. Guns, scopes, mags, etc. Usually I sell at cost or below. I never try something out and then sell it as new. I just cleared out a few demo suppressors as I am always looking for the best one for my guns. I always have something that is a demo available if a client wants to save money.sigpic

This sounds an awful lot like fraud and also something that distributors wouldn't be crazy about. For Sale: Off Roster Handgun Moving Sale

I don't really care if a firearm I bought has a hundred rounds through it. I appreciate a discount as a demo, but I'm going to surpass the round count on my first range trip or two anyway, so I'm not too worried about the number of rounds through it when I buy, as long as it's functional and I'm happy with how it looks in my hands! I'd appreciate being told it was shot a bunch, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.Comment

Not all items are bought from distributors. I have manufacturers sending guns to me to place in my shop or to show clients at my range. Some I do not even pay for until I sell it or return it. Others are sold to me at a big discount so it can get on my shelf. Some just give me stuff so I can show clients how great the item is. Last item I sold was a $60 AK comp from a well known manufacturer. I asked them for one to see if it will tame down my selectfire AK47. It did a great job and when a guy at the range last week noticed how soft it was shooting he asked about it and I sold it to him.
There are some very nasty dealers. One dealer I knew used to take everything out of the box for himself to sell. Stickers, rail covers, slings. Gun just got the mag and manual.
MG dealers are even worse. Hard to tell how many rides an old gun took over the course of 3-9 months while a client waited. Rare parts get swapped out for copies. It's a sad deal and why it is well worth paying a dealer like me a premium to research a gun and lock it away than buy something off gunbroker and ship to an unknown shop.sigpic

My comment that those up the chain (manufacturers, distributors, etc) wouldn't be crazy about it would come from the fact that it might make them look bad.Not all items are bought from distributors. You'd know better than I would.
I think selling used things as new is clearly fraud if you can prove it, and even if you can't, your reputation in business should be worth more than anything else. I know you run the honest way and others don't. Guess who I'd buy from...

i don't know they do it with new cars - until it is registered for the first time it's considered new
i bought a Ford Van for my company back in the 90's that they had to sell as used and it only had 84 miles on it - dealer sold it, registered it, then had to take it back for some reason
i got it about $6,000 cheaper than the non registered ones on the lot
i've test drove cars that will be sold as new and they already have 20 or 30 miles on themOriginally posted by BarangI! hate! you! FalconLair.

distributors dont care. they are just a middleman. manufacturers will care. one of the reasons i dropped colt. the rifles are always beat up and i had to fight with distributors for returns. they want manufacturers to deal with it which incurs more time and shiipping cost. its not worth sending a new gun in for warranty work before it even gets transferred. My comment that those up the chain (manufacturers, distributors, etc) wouldn't be crazy about it would come from the fact that it might make them look bad.

depends on the car. demos usually get a discount unless it is high demand. i used to take new cars home for a week at a time as a test drive. usually only done for old clients or high credit score clients. when i bought new i only bought prior to the lot prep when the paint film was till on. usually took them 2 days to get it ready so i got a nice loaner while i waited.i don't know they do it with new cars - until it is registered for the first time it's considered new

cars usualy go back because they apprive financing and then no bank will underwrite so they cancel the deal with the buyer.sigpic

Most FFL's with a range will have demo guns for use on the range, and that gun will be heavily used (read: beaten to hell) before it's sold at dealer cost a year or two later, usually picked up by someone looking for a project. My range in Atlanta sells range glocks after 2-3 years as a rental for about $200. I don't know of many, if not any, FFL's that will go and fire a new gun, but who the hell cares if they do? Are you planning on ever shooting the gun? If yes, it shouldn't matterOriginally posted by KestryllThis guy is a complete and total idiot.

I think "new" just like a new car..means never sold to a consumer and unregistered.
A FFL "using" his "new" inventory should sell such inventory as "demo" with a discount. Anything else, while maybe not illegal is unethical..."Extremism in defense of liberty is no vice. Moderation in pursuit of justice is no virtue." ----Sen. Barry Goldwater
Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." ----Benjamin Franklin
