I just received a phone call from the district. I reiterated my main concern, that as a parent, under these circumstances, we are entitled to know the underlying facts as to why the school may think there is no credible threat. I want the facts to determine if such a conclusion is based on good judgment, and that invoking some form of privacy is unacceptable. Everyone knows who the troubled kid is, just give us the facts so we can make our own independent assessment as to if and when our children are being properly safeguarded.

Good luck RandyD on getting the truth. After Parkland and et al, with the knowledge you do have, maybe a day off for your daughter may be appropriate.

I knew that doesn't "solve" the issue but may give more time to investigate.

Best to you and your family---and all involved.

        Respectfully
        Kyle

I had a coworker doing the same thing a few years back. I tried to alert the proper authorities. No one cared.

More BS from schools and law enforcement.

I second the idea to keep your daughter home.

I wonder what these drills look like, as I have only seen part of a clip from one supposedly run at the Florida school. Do they do more harm than good? It seems that people in a school are screwed no matter what they do, unless they can take down a shooter without having good weapons of their own, or an armed good person shows up to stop it.

I think I recall hearing a Florida student say they thought that shooting was part of another drill. That would be a good time for someone to sneak in and take advantage of students expecting a person with a gun.

Something just doesn't meet the eye with these shootings.

You know you're daughter really doesn't look well. You should probably keep her home tomorrow to rest.

report it to the local news with the proof, it will probably make the early evening news.

just make sure to remain anonymous though in the "tv interview" so your daughter doesn't get any retaliation from friends of the kid, or the kid himself.

Wow, up here (NorCal) we had notes found at three different schools in the last two weeks, likely just a bunch of little ****s wanting to get out of a test. Reminds me of all the bomb threats at school back in the 70's.

Your experience on the other hand would have me concerned as well. This is the kind of stuff that they want us to "see something, say something" and then all you get is the run around. I would be investigating home schooling if I still had kids in high school.

Like the others, keep her home. Tell the janitor that other kid said he was a wussy.

I don't have all of the facts, but I have spoken to several students, and they have told me that the school was put on notice about this student earlier in the week, and the school did not want to act on the information. If that is true, that is very troubling. At this point, I just want to know the facts and to be able to also assess the threat, so I can make a good decision if one is needed.

I wrote an email to the district's superintendent, which is what prompted them to call me. I also forwarded my email to a former client and now friend, who works for KFMB. He called me within minutes, the district's superintendent's office took a couple of hours to call.

My daughter will stay home tomorrow. I'll enjoy the one on one time with her.

If this kid did make the threat, I think every parent should join in a lawsuit and sue the kid's parents. Conduct discovery, let some sunlight get shed on the problem, and if appropriate award general, special and punitive damages to the parents of children who were adversely affected. When the parents of these troubled children start loosing their assets and money, maybe they will rethink their parenting techniques and efforts.

That incident was also addressed in my letter to the district superintendent.

Forget the school police and the school administration. Contact the law enforcement agency with jurisdiction, possible the San Diego Sheriff's Department, and ask for names of everyone you talk with and then follow up with email to the agency. And as many have said, keep your daughter home and let other parents know of the issue.
