    Silver lining...?

I know we're all stressed out about all of the libs talking about gun bans and what not, but I think there's a silver lining to all of this.

We all thought Trump was going to lose by a landslide, and we really had no idea he was going to win until he did. The liberals make the most noise and control the most video outlets, this is true. But one thing they obviously aren't capable of doing is really discerning the facts from the people, no matter how hard they try.

There's no denying we're in a precarious position right now, especially with CA trying to impose a total ban on semi's. But let's look at the bigger picture:

    - Liberals were crying and calling Trump supporters "deplorables" like Hilary.

    - Liberals have been trying to prove a Russian collusion was the reason Trump won.

    - Liberals want sanctuary for illegal immigrants.

    - Liberals want to ban a right to bear arms.

If you look at everything laid out like this, all I see is the liberals alienating a strong majority of America and standing by illogical ideologies. As scared as I am about losing my rights, I almost feel in the long run all that has happened from the left in the past year is going to hurt them bad. They think they've rallied the troops and they're going to tear down the big bad NRA, but I feel like they've pushed gun owners and many Americans into a corner and forced their hand. Which in turn is going unleash a really nasty wrath upon them that will probably never be forgetten.

I just re-upped my NRA membership and will continue to do so for as long as I live. I haven't been an NRA member for a while, even with all the solicitation, I disagreed with things they were doing. But with everything that's going on I refuse to stand by and let the psycho's on the left control us, and this great country.

Like I have said before, whenever they pull out the gun control argument Americans rush out and buy more guns and the NRA gets a boost in memberships and donations.

The 2018 mid-terms will be the preview for 2020 presidential campaign. If the dems win big, you can bet they will go full potato in 2020 with a far left candidate that will make Hillary look like a moderate. After that you can say goodbye to the 2A nationwide.

However, if the Republicans keep both the Senate and the House, the dems are going to have to rethink their identity politics and gun control platform because that will be a whole decade of losing.
The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money.

Let me share a little different perspective.

Political beliefs vary across a spectrum from one extreme (liberal) to the other (conservative?). Those who are most passionate tend to inhabit the extremes, and they also tend to field the candidates that reflect their (extreme) views.

Many of us who sit in between the extremes (I'm talking my wife, many of our friends and me) are unhappy with the current state of affairs, especially all of the pointless shouting. I suspect if we ever got off our lazy backsides and became politically active, we'd shove the extremists to the sides and make them irrelevant.

It's also worth bearing in mind that the founders wanted our government institutions to be slow and cumbersome in order to slow down radical elements on either side of an issue. It's frustrating and extremely painful to watch. It is expensive. But as a friend of mine who used to work in the California legislature once pointed out, there is a very efficient form of government. It's called a dictatorship. The only place it has ever worked well is Singapore, which arguably is a benevolent dictatorship rather than a democracy.

Be careful what you wish for.

Many of us who sit in between the extremes

Conservatives are not extremiststs. In fact, "conservative" is the opposite of "extremist". All we want is adherence to the original intent of the constitution as written and amended.

The silver lining is that the liberals are exposing themselves as completely unreasonable extremists. The people in the middle will be more and more repelled by extremists as they undeniably expose their unhinged view of the world.

Part of the silver lining was the record number of firearm background checks and gun show attendance in Florida since the shooting. Nothing like stupid liberals to encourage sales of items that they oppose. It almost makes you think firearm companies are supporting the liberal nuts to improve sales.

I was at a gun show in Texas Saturday and they said attendance was twice what it was last month.

This one has a different feel to it though. Not sure everyone rushed out to buy guns after the Orlando shooting. People are really pissed about this one at the national level.

The silver lining is 1/2 of the country will become walking felons. Most of us here in California already are.

I have faith in the people and the system, I think we're gonna come out on top eventually. The liberals have exhausted most everyone who isn't them from since the beginning of the election, so this is just another piece to the pie.

Not to mention the facts have come out about the deputies, so CNN and other MSM outlets can't just focus on the guns anymore. They have to tell somewhat of the truth and that is LEO can't protect you in those circumstances.

OP you bring up a good point. It's also nice to hear a refreshing perspective among the rampant doom and gloom. About 95% of this forum was Absolutely sure Hillary was going to be elected. Drown out the leftwing media, they are wrong most of the time.

Orlando was terrorism and the victims were gay. I'm not saying that makes it right, but there are a lot of people that don't view this the same as a nut with a gun killing innocent students.

I think the real difference this time is that the anti-2a forces had everything in place to agitate and organize widespread "protests", much of which I believe is not even real. Their plans to focus on the NRA and partners is a classic tactic of organized opposition groups. I would be willing to bet that most of the people that contacted NRA partners to voice their opposition do not even exist or know their names were used. What we are seeing here is a blatant attempt to demonize and discredit organizations and people that do not agree with a well funded vocal minority. These people would love to hurt the NRA financially, and politically, and force gun owners into the closet.

The gun ownership numbers, and people's reaction to potential gun bans illustrate the fact that a significant number of Americans support the Second Amendment.

The results from the senate midterms won't mean as much as it's made out to be. GOP has two states that lean R and the rest are likely or safe R. Dems have 25 seats up for grabs, 10 of which voted for Trump in 2016. In regards to keeping the senate for a SCOTUS appointee I think we are okay. Getting enough votes for national reciprocity or some other pro-2A bill is unlikely but still possible. 4 of the dems 25 who are up for grabs typically vote pro-2a. We would have to pick up three seats in states where the dem senators vote against the 2A, but also that state mostly respects the 2nd amendment- Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Florida, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Florida. So it's possible but the odds are against us. Much crazier things have happened.

The election results in the House will be most indicative of what 2020 will hold. 2022 there is a new census and red states are expected to pick up 3-4 electoral votes.
