Either a Ruger American Ranch .223 that takes AR magazines.................... OR
A Stag 15 Varminter HBAR upper assembly.
They are both in the $400 price point, I have the lower receiver and build materials for the lower end, so I'm not worried about that. I have an extra ARgold trigger from a prior build, so trigger isn't a concern. I'm wanting a rifle that will plink whistle pigs inside of about 200 yards or less, weight will NOT be a concern, so a different gun altogether would be doable as long as it is under $500 for the whole thing. I'm more concerned with 1/2 to 1MOA accuracy than I am with anything else.
Throwing out options for plinking, varminting, and potentially TEOTWAKI if need be. I have plenty of other rifles, 16" "battle rifles", I have .308 hunting rifles, I don't have anything target or benchrest right now other than .22lr benchrest rifle that I don't want to use on critters. What does the Calguns community think of this, and what have I left out?
