Removing surface rust on blued receiver.

I have a Wingmaster that is blued. Is a dry steel wool pad the best way to remove rust? Should oil be used or NOT be used to remove surface rust on a blued gun using 4 ott steel wool?

Rub the rust with the edge of a 5 cent coin. it will take it off without harming the finish. Use one of the older nickel coins, not the newest.

I use 0000 steel wool. I have never had a problem with that. If the gun will be stored and not shot or oiled much, I use Johnsons paste wax on the metal as well as the wood. I have tried the coin thing, for me it doesn't work that well. If you can, maybe take the stock off and find some rust to experiment on.

i used a little steel wool with some oil to remove a little pitting on the handle of my Browning Hi-Power

to my surprise it came right off, although i've heard using bronze wool is better

Personally found that a hammered flat tip of empty brass works the best at this with some hoppes or whatever.

Don't use steel on the bluing as it could cause damage, use brass or copper as stated above. Also use plenty of oil, Kroil works well.

0000 bronze wool and evaporust. Both available through amazon. When done, a little gun blue paste and some renessaince wax. I’ll post some links. Go slow.
