    Vepr-12 Stock Options

I have a Vepr-12 with a AR stock tube and a pinned Blackhawk stock.

I need to get it sorted out before submitting pics for registration. So, I'd like to install a Fab Defense GL-Shock stock on it using a Strike Industries AR Stock Stop.

My question is, what are your opinions on whether the GL-Shock stock will pass the DOJ registration requirements as "fixed" stock.

The concern here is that it is confused for a bump stock or adjustable stock due to the spring in it

    Thoughts?

Why not keep what you have if it’s pinned?

And can you not swap the buttstock out later, after is been registered with DOJ? I apologize for my ignorance in the registration process, I have no plans to do so myself and haven’t studied it much.

The current stock is pinned in place, its a crappy stock. I just put it on there to meet the requirement until I found something better

The gl-shock stock cant be pinned and still work as intended. I found this product to limit its adjustability, but still function as a recoil absorbing stock.

My concern is, that it may considered adjustable due to its recoil absorbing ability. It moves about 3/4” when the spring is fully compressed

Unfortunately, I don’t have any options in not registering the Vepr12. I must register it or sell it....

Prior to 07-01-2018, one of the following must be done to a VEPR/Saiga shotgun with a "bullet button" style magazine lock:
              A. Register it as an assault weapon.
              B. Modify it so that it has a fixed magazine that can not be removed without disassembing the firearm's action or that is permanently attached to the firearm's magazine well.
              C. Make it into a manually operated shotgun. This can be done by removing the gas piston and plugging the gas block.
              D. Disassemble it into parts and never assemble it while in CA.
              E. Take it out-of-state for storage or to transfer it through an out-of-state FFL dealer.
              F. Sell it to a CA FFL dealer with an assault weapons permit.
              G. Surrender it to law enforcement for destruction.

You’re right, I misspoke. I do have options...

however, What’s the point in keeping it, if I were to take it down into parts or store in another state. Might as well sell it...

Fixed magazine would be stupid on AK platform, no point to it... reloading would be a nightmare

I thought about plugging the gas block, and would be ok with it. However, it does not have a typical type gas port like a conventional AR or AK. It has 4 tiny holes in the barrel and a large (approx 7/16”) hole in the gas block. The hole in the gas block is not thick enough to take threads. I could weld a plug in. But where would I find a replacement gas block down the road? They are unobtanium... or $280 for an aftermarket railed version(no front sight)

So, the only viable options for me are to sell it, or register it

Lets not get off topic, whether I register or not. The stock still needs to be fixed in place for a CA semi-auto shotgun.

Food for off-topic thought, if you register it as an assault weapon...

After it becomes a registered assault weapon, there are no CA laws/regulations that prohibits modifying it so that it has a folding/extending shoulder stock and a pistol grip.

                  The only restrictions are:
                  1. The "bullet button" style magazine lock can not be removed (unless it is to repair/replace it or deregister the AW). [11 CCR 5477]
                  2. Minimum barrel length of 18". [PC 17180(a)]
                  3. Minimum overall length of 26". [PC 17180(b)]

I see what you’re saying... but how is that possible if the gun can’t be modified after the pics are submitted for AW registration approval?

What makes you think the firearm can't be modified after you submit for registration? Pics are mostly so they can verify you do have a firearm that is eligible for registration.
