If you want to transfer it pop the action out of the stock and walk it in. You are legal unless it has a flash hider otherwise remove that too. Do the paperwork and then replace the stock with a standard mini 14 stock. Problem solved.

A mini-14 with a folding stock!? Here’s what you do
        1. Take it home
        2. Buy a black van
        3. Get a black guy with a Mohawk to drive you around and live out all your A-Team fantasies!

Put it into an original one piece stock. Then sell the folding stock because it's probably worth a pot full.

factory Ruger folding stocks are worth more then the gun theses days unless the gun is a original GB or AC556. if its just a mini with a folder take the stock, sell it and buy a new mini-14.....

              1) Make sure the rifle is in a normal stock.
              2) you and you aunt walk into a gun shop with it, you do a PPT transfer. All you aunt needs is a her drivers licence. No paperwork, no storys, keep your mouth shut. She is the owner of the rifle and you guys are there to transfer it to you( because this is the truth, how she aquired it is nobodys buisiness, including the gun store.) 3) You will need a firearms Saftey Certificate ($25 and take a short test), fill out some paperwork, have a drivers licence with your current address on it, and give a thumb print. The dealer holds the rifle for a minimum of 240 hours and if you background check comes back clean, you can pick the rifle up.

Do your uncles memory a solid action. Take the advise on this forum and put a regular stock on it and get it transfer d to you. The mini 14 is a great gun.

You mean your uncle gave it to you back in the 1980’s and you took possession of it way back then

Would the standard cap mags be a no-no now? Provided there ever were any in the first place?

The mags don't have to accompany the gun to DROS it. If needed, buy a 5 or 10 rounder.

If there are any standard cap mags, they belong to the Aunt. It is legal for her (at this moment) to continue to poses them. The OP could not have them because he did not poses them before jan 1 2000.
