    .22 pistols 2018

    Hello fellow gunners

New to the site and am interested in what the laws would be with a cool .22 pistol I've seen. It was the GSG 5 PK and from I've gathered from the owner and others is that the lock mag configuration put it in its own classification from being considered an AW in our lovely state. If it's true, I'd want one and would love to put a brace on one IF I could find one.

Please enlighten me on what the current status on this little plinker would be because 1. I'm not one to break any laws 2. This platform is leaving lots of people scratching their heads and leaning towards it being a perfectly legal fixed mag .22 pistol.

Much appreciated and I've been doing nothing but research and am stumped

    Under CA laws...

In order for a CA FFL dealer to legally transfer a handgun, the handgun needs to be listed on the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale or be exempt from it (C&R, LEO sale, PPT, OTP, out-of-state intra-familial gift, SAE, SSE2).

Before 2015, it was legal for a semi-auto pistol to be made into a single-shot pistol and transferred using SSE. However, due to changes in the laws (post-2014), SSE became SSE2 and a semi-auto pistol made into a single-shot pistol is no longer exempt.

In addition (post-2016), a semi-auto pistol that does not have a fixed magazine and accepts magazines outside of the pistol's grip is an assault weapon. [PC 30515(a)(4)(D)]

    Therefore... (starting 01-01-2017)

In order to be CA legal, the GSG-5PK/GSG-522PK needs to operate using a fixed 10 or less round magazine.
^The magazine needs to be contained in the firearm and can not be removed without diassembling the firearm's action or is permanently attached in the firearm's magazine well.

In order for a CA FFL dealer to legally be able to transfer a CA legal GSG-5PK/GSG-522PK an exemption must be utilized (LEO sale, PPT, out-of-state intra-familial gift).

If a person legally acquired a GSG-5PK/GSG-522PK with a "bullet button" style magazine lock from 2001-2016, then they currrently have an exemption to continue to possess it until 07-01-2018.
^They must do one of the following, prior to 07-01-2018:
    A. Register it as an assault weapon.
    B. Modify it so that it operates using a fixed 10 or less round magazine.
    C. Disassemble it into parts and never assemble it while in CA.
    D. Take it out-of-state for storage or to transfer it through an out-of-state FFL dealer.
    E. Destroy it.
    F. Surrender it to law enforcement for destruction.
~If they do nothing, then starting 07-01-2018, they will be in felony possession of an assault weapon.
