Fed ex made him sent it overnight?

    Could have used UPS
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

I think both UPS and FedEx want you to ship a firearm next day air. When I shipped my P-01 to Cajun Gun Works Dave told me specifically to ship second day regardless of what the shipper's site said.

Yes I guess that is the requirement by both services, priority overnight ,meaning it gets there first thing in the morning

        Just seems a bit steep

You need an account with fed ex or ups.

                This gives you some discount.

If his work will let him use their account and pay with his credit card, that is cheap too

Getting a local FFL to ship it is also cheaper as they have an account and do volume.

It all just kinda depends. Sometimes FedEx is cheaper, sometimes UPS is. It can vary depending on area. But neither one is cheap. I usually figure it's going to be $100 to overnight a gun anywhere. It's nuts.

I know, they bend you over. The guy who was doing work on a rifle barrel for me insisted I use FedEx when USPS would have been faster, way cheaper, and provided better insurance.

It may have been a lot of money doing it that way, but trust me when I say it was the best way to do it. The least amount of time something like that is in the wind so to speak the better. I worked for them in "Aircraft Maintenance" for over 25 years and believe me if "Aircraft Parts" can get lost, so can a Hand Gun. And it doesn't matter who you ship with, stuff just happens and that's the way it goes. Fedex has a lot of Security everywhere, and you never know who is who, until you hear that Hymie Bitsco got fired for drugs or theft, and suddenly Throckmorton the overly friendly ramp agent doesn't work there anymore, you don't know who was who.

Recently had a deal cancelled over shipping costs. FedEx and USPS were almost the same price. Was a large box.
