What it does The BF-10™ is a loading device used for reloading an AR-15's magazine while it is still in the firearm. It performs the same function as a stripper clip for an SKS or similar rifle. Why Several states have passed laws which ban semiautomatic rifles with detachable magazines and certain cosmetic features (p

No prince 50 are not acceptable for fixed mag. Armaglock, rivet mag, fill set screw area with black epoxy =no more BB or prince function.

This is what I am doing with mine.

If it came down to confiscation or removing from the state, I'd move my stuff to NV anyways.
Don't see much of a downside to registering an already registered (pistol) weapon.

If you are referring to the original Prince-50 from 2007, no, that does not qualify as a fixed magazine any more than the bullet button does.
To qualify as a fixed magazine, the magazine must not be removable without partial disassembly of the action.
Just as it did in 2007, backing out the setscrew on the Prince-50 creates an AW.

Prince *is* now making the "Patriot Button" which is compliant.

Likewise, Franklin DFM magazine, FC Hook, Hogue Freedom Fighter... there are a dozen or more options now.

Sorry, a P50 lock does NOT fit the new legal definition of "fixed magazine". The magazine can still be removed without "disassembling the action". I really like the simplicity of the Maglatch for ARs but, not for AKs. Unfortunately, I have been able to defeat the AK Maglatch without disassembling the action so, I can not endorse it even though it is a very well made product. However, their AR Maglatch is a great design that can be used in conjunction with one of the ejection port loading systems or even the AR magazine that loads from the side.

1 - Illegal to ever will it to your children within California
2 - Illegal to ever sell it to someone else within California
3 - Illegal for it to be in the possession of ANYONE under 21
4 - Illegal to transport it by any means except between specific destinations (no stopping at Denny's on the way to/from the range)
5 - Illegal to lend it to another person unless you are constantly present

Ya... there's quite a number of reasons to avoid RAW status. Just because the state "already knows about it" is the least of your problems after registration.
The transportation requirements are far more strict than the handgun transportation requirements, which include, when in a motor vehicle, "be unloaded and in a locked container"

You can't legally drive round 24/7 with a RAW locked in your trunk.

Does the answer change if it we're an AR pistol built from an 80% back in 2014 under SSE? What has to be done by 6/30/18?

The basic issues are the same, however, it will need to be serialized and VolReg'd before July.

If you want to register it as an AW, then you have to apply for a DOJ-assigned serial number, have that engraved on the lower, and you may then apply for AW registration.

It must be "in a centralized database"

That means either VolReg, DOJ-assigned, or you've "vol-reg'd" it by running a pawn-and-return at some point.

When I read AB 857, I see that after 6/30/18 it has to be registered with a DOJ assigned serial number. I can't find anything specific on what is required if its built prior to that date... Except for a couple 80% vendor sites that say "put your own serial number on prior to 7/1/18, and no reg required". I don't really trust them.

There is a reference to "in a centralized database"
I don't recall exactly where it was or what the exact context was, but it was separate from the AW registration procedures, as that requires a DOJ-issued serial number.
