As far as I know, firearm transfer between residents from different states, FFL transfer is required.
The guy that supposed to receive them has to provide FFL info so the rifles can be shipped to the FFL location for proper transfer.

    -Because they don't work either.

      ^^^^ This.

All interstate transfers require an FFL.

Has to go through FFL since there was no will leaving them to him. They now belong to the widow, and residents of different states must transfer through a FFL in the recipient state.

As explained, the Winner Son! needs to provide FFL information plus the cost of shipping which is not going to be cheap for 6 long guns plus insurance.

            And FFL transfer fees.

It will cost him more to receive them than he will get for them from a pawn shop.

This little tidbit of information should be imparted to the tardy progeny. Shipping. Insurance. FFL fees. Once he understands that his net after pawning them will be negligent or even negative he may reconsider his options.

Here's a thought. If you fear that he won't have the sentimental attachment to them that someone else would (say....like yourself?) then maybe you should make him an offer for the lot of them and do the PPT from widow to yourself.

              Just a thought...

Tell your friend she does not have to answer the phone when he calls and be done with it. There is an ignore button on the phone. Cant even make it to his dads funeral and now wants his rifles. No way. Good luck to your friend OP.

Tell the kid he has to pass a criminal background check. He also has to essentially swear under oath he's not abusing drugs. That may change his mind for him.

If there is no will stating that the older son is supposed to get any of the rifles, then why is the widow even considering sending them to the him? Especially when she feels that they will quickly be sold off, and is worried about legal issues. The guns are hers now, to do with as she chooses, if she chooses not to send them to the wayward son, that is her right.
