Online sellers have millions of potential customers. Brick and mortar, not so much. Big online sellers buy in bulk getting a better price than small retail stores.
Free choice is what it is all about, if you need something now, many stores offer that and often we pay a premium for it. I shop for two reasons, because I need something or I want something.

I bought my first gun from them. Before I knew what guns cost and all my different options. I can agree they are way overpriced. After everything was said and done I over payed about $150 for a Springfield xd. They are expensive even for brick and mortars. Now that I've gotten into guns, they after the most expensive shop I've been in. I must also add though the city they are in is an expensive area.

They were nice and helpful, but I can't justify paying that much. I will still support local business's but as long as they try to be at least competitive.

Buys parts without doing due diligence and researching price of said parts before purchasing.

Wants a brick and mortar in a very high rent / cost of living area to be competitive with an online retailer selling out of his garage.

        Clearly VC Defense's fault.

We all hate to over pay, but blasting a store because you didn't price check is NOT their fault, it's yours!

31 posts in 7 years ? Go to gun show pay parking and entry to buy your part. PSA not selling anything to Ca next year. I need some small parts from time to time and either bite the bullet or wait or put in want to buy on here.

I didnt even know we had a gun store in Thousand Oaks, they really need to get out there and do some advertising. There transfer fees aren't bad 60+25. Camarillo gun store is 75 + 25. Either way there's other people in ventura county who charge a lot more. Ive never been in so I wont speak to their gun prices but everyone's entitled to a living and no one is forcing anyone to shop there. If they're unreasonable the free market will close them down.

BTW if you live in the east ventura county area you should be doing your ffl transfers with carol in thousand oaks much cheaper esp. if purchasing multiple long guns and easily findable on gunbroker.

Prior to leaving CA I used John at VCDefense on numerous occasions. Started buying items from him when he ran his business out of his house. He has never been anything but a pleasure to do business with.

Going from a tabletop business to opening up a storefront is no simple task and I can only imagine how much his increase in overhead has been. It has been a while since being in his store on TO Blvd...but I don’t remember his prices being that much higher than other local area shops.

A few years ago I ordered a .30-06 rifle from Davidson’s Gallery of Guns and chose VCDefense to handle the transfer. His price was at least $100 cheaper than any other local dealer through GoG. I have bought numerous lowers, bcg’s, handguards, barrels, and various other parts from him and never felt ripped off. Of course they were more expensive than shopping online, but that is to be expected.

Whether or not OP checked pricing is immaterial...the gun store's pricing remains.

Don't they charge more than $35 illegally or make you do an appointment or something like that?

After the seller and I each drove an hour in pouring rain to get there, VC Defense tried to refuse doing our PPT because they were "extremely busy." After 10 minutes of coaxing and a 30 minute PPT I think we were the only two people who entered the store.
