but if you go shooting like 100+ rounds a month for every month WITHOUT hearing protection then you'll be deaf.

Hell if hearing was that sensitive... every idiot driving in a car blasting music would be more def than the moment after you've been shell shocked. Which by the way... is a very unique experience. If you see some idiots playing with gatorade bottles and dry ice and throwing it at people call the cops.
Ok, its one thing to have an opinion on matters that dont effect anyone else..like saying you think "vanilla" is better than "strawberry" ice cream... But when you start to publicly post that there's no damage from even one round of 9mm going off wihtout hearing protection, thats just outright FOOLISH.. Spewing information that is wrong and HARMFUL needs to be immediately addressed..

Hearing loss is a cumulative effect. Go look it up.. better yet, go speak with a Dr. about it. Dont rely on what you think you know, cause im guessing you're not very educated in the classical sense..Why do you think concert staff wear hearing plugs? overtime all that loud music damages your hearing... You dont go deaf overnight and you dont go deaf all at once.. but 5 years down..10 years down..20 years down.. your range of hearing is degraded..

Maybe in your case, firing all those rounds without hearing protection has made you DEAF as well as DUMB?

I shoot once and a while without plugs. I know... I know... dumb. The M1 Garand is up there on noise, but the 1919 rapid firing is worse.

If someone has an intruder in their house... It's even MORE foolish to tell that someone to take a few extra seconds to put on your muffs before picking up your gun! Think about it!

Just remember... expect a LOUD noise and maybe a flash of light. You are the one behind the gun and you should know when you're about to fire.

I've shot 9mm's, .45's, .223's, .308's, 7.62x39's without hearing protection (not by choice)... it's not all fun, but it can be done It's really not advisable as is shooting without eye protection which is just as bad if not worse!

          by the way... .223's SUCK!!

No it doesn't....I know for a fact it's a 100% one shot stopper....There are fields out there lined with thousands of bodies of ground squirrels that prove my point.

I shoot .22's without hearing protection, its not like they're that loud. Most anything bigger I would use protection though.

I once shot my Glock 30 without ear protection. I shot about 30rds out of it in the desert doing some drills. The first shot made my ears ring for a few minutes, but other than that, the blast mostly got to me. I figured that if I ever had to shoot it without protection, that would be the time to see what it'd be like. Not very pleasant, but that would be the last time I'd do that. I also shot my 10/22 and it sounded like a firecracker.

I never use ear protection when I'm hunting, but I always use it on the range. Unlike a lot of people, I do notice ringing after a hunting shot. Sounds like a door slamming right next to you. One day, I will get some of those fancy ear plugs that allow you to hear soft noises, but block loud ones. (I had a passive pair when I was a teenager. They were great! and not too expensive.)

My Dad lettered in rifle team when he was in high school. 100 to 200 rounds of .22 EVERY DAY for four years, inside, without ear protection. There were many things he could not hear, mostly high frequency, but if you looked right at him and spoke clearly, he could understand what you said.

When training my dog, I once fired my cap pistol inside with blanks. Man, did that hurt! I did it once or twice more with ear muffs, then quit once I was convinced the dog wasn't afraid of it. Why ruin his hearing?
