Help: Right Handed, Left Eye Dominant Shooter

I saw some folks said teaching them to shoot left handed (in your daughter's case) is easiest.

Since she is young and learning how to shoot, I'd suggest trying to teach her how to shoot left handed. If that doesn't work, she will have to keep her left eye closed when shooting. One easy way to learn this is to cover the left lens of her shooting glasses with tape.

I'm not an expert in the field of precision shooting by any means, but I know competition shooters resort to eye patches sometimes. In a case similar to your daughters, a competitor will insist on working with his dominant eye, rather than dominant hand.

In my field of work it doesn't hurt to be ambidextrous. I started working with my left hand in cooking tasks after I saw how proficient my nephew is. My sister tried teaching him to be left handed. He rejected it and instead became ambi!

Finally, I'll say that a bolt gun with a scope would probably be a nice introduction to shooting with a left eye. It's my unprofessional opinion that it is much harder to train your eyes than hands. So have her try a bolt gun with an eye patch on right eye. Trigger finger from her left hand, and she can actually work the bolt with her already dominant right hand. I think she has a shot (pun intended). Good luck and God Bless.

I am right handed but left eye dominant. Ever since I was a kid I always have shot longguns left handed. Pistols and the rest of life is right handed. I shoot with both eyes open and my eyes naturally focus to the left eye. Not a big deal, let her shoot from which ever side is comfortable. And there is no need for left handed guns; bolt guns, AR’s etc are simple to operate left handed. I do run an ambi charging handle and safety on my AR’s for ease of use.

Cross dominant here. I shoot rifle with my left and pistol with my right.

I am right handed and left eye dominant. Switching to right eye dominant takes much less effort than switching to left handed.

I shoot Rifles Left & Pistol Right

It's never bothered me and even shooting rifle right handed I can nail a torso target with iron sights, scopes and red dots at 25, 50, 100, 200 & 400

Just don't expect me to shoot the balls off a mosquito right handed

I shoot my AR-15 left handed. I did not spend the extra money and buy a left handed one.

I'm left-eyed and right-handed. Switched to left-handed for long guns (when I was 8 or so)and usually shoot handguns with my right. Worked fine, even for 35 plus years as a cop and in the Army with the M14 and M16.
I often used a left-handed draw of my backup when approaching the driver's side of s suspect's vehicle.
"Weak-side" (left) handgun hold seems easier when you are left eye dominant.
Didn't work very well with a bow, just couldn't get the hang of shooting it left-handed.

Teach her to shoot left handed. Better yet, have a pro teach her.
