Firearm inventory software question

I only keep ammo inventory on a spread sheet, all firearm purchases and sales are in a 3 ring binder chronologically.

My only problem is when I find the odd box of shells here and there and don't get logged into the inventory, not worth the time and who is counting anyway.

Excel. It does what I want.
List firearms.
Serial number.
Last time used/cleaned.

I have no need for any other info. I paid what I paid for them. That could be a lot different then its worth or sell price.
I have no interest in tracking when or where I bought them. No need to track ammo or rounds fired. If and when I sell I will simply say a lot of rounds fired.

That being said if something did show up that was quick and easy I may take a look at it.

I wanted to do a quick calculation while on my iPad recently just to learn that iPad doesn't come with a calculator. So, I opened up the app store and found a bunch of calculators, but the simple, free, useful ones all came with the commercials. No thanks. I'd rather carry any of my old HPs.

A simple tracking app would be great as long as it's commercials-free. Extra features could be pay-to-play for those who need them and are willing to pay.

I have been planning to expand on my application for years now and still not done it. The short answer is YES there is a need. I wrote a .NET app years ago to keep track of my ammo and reloading components, its Windows based and I wanted to create a app for my phone but found I don't need it. I do all the work on my PC and the application had a HTML output that I upload to my website, so I can see what components I have in detail at the store, but can't change/modify it until I get home. I only have 8 handguns and 4 rifles so I didnt need to keep track of those, i can remember those in my head.
The issues with creating one, is just like you (the OP) said, you have tried some already and they didnt work for you, they likely worked great for the original creator. We are all different and creating the "one" app will be hard. I would like a mobile app to keep track of my reloading components, but my .net app creates HTML and I upload that, its 2 steps but it works.
Of course last year I moved to a iMac so my .net application does not work and I have to start over

Use excel for active windows such as ammo inventory.
Use excel for reload inventory and ladders.
Use Word for individual firearms and their accessories.

Not sure if I would need anything else.

What do you have in mind?

You can set up excel to do the calculations for you.

Would love a GOOD app! I do everything on my phone. Having to get on a computer is the last thing I want to do. Do it!

I use Excel to track ammo supply, average cost, and firearms.

I was using an iPhone app that worked well, but switched to Excel because big brother was watching

I'm a software geek and agree with the sentiment stated above that standard Excel sheets kind of suck for anything more than simple needs but more advanced features can make it work.

If someone wants to take a shot at specifying requirements, we can group design/build this in short order.

I use a plain text file.

I don't want my family to have to figure out some funky program in order to read my inventory. Plan text works everywhere.

I just use Notes on my iPhone.

For firearms, I track the make and model, serial number, DROS date, DROS location, and the round count (by date).

For ammo, I keep an inventory of all my ammo cans. For each can I list the total number of rounds (by caliber) and then break it down, box by box, listing the number of boxes, rounds per box, manufacturer, caliber, grains, bullet type (e.g., FMJ, RNFP), and anything else relevant, such as Super Velocity or something. Had I been thinking ahead when I started this all, I would have recorded the date of purchase ... the "vintage."

I started this list just to keep track of rounds fired and to remember any firearms I'd sold.

I started keeping track of my ammo--what I had and where it was--back in November 2016. Later, I added purchase goals, and that led me to keep track of market prices.

What I really want is a software agent that will comb the web periodically to record prices for the type of ammo I want. For example, I'd like to be able to tell my software agent, "Visit Turner's every Friday and record the price of Fiocchi 9mm 115gr," then ask it to generate graphs to show trends. After December 31, this shouldn't be too much of a chore, since online vendors are a no-go for most of us, leaving just the big box stores. Still, it's a chore for me to do it manually.

Using a spreadsheet or app to track my toys would be tantamount to an admission that I have too many. So no app or spreadsheet for me.

put it all on a notepad and save it in one of my email folders

nothing else really necessary for me - anything get stolen i have enough for the police report
