New ammo law question

I buy ammo for an 80 year old uncle in .25acp. I don't own a firearm that chambers .25ACP.
Will I still be able to continue to get this for my elderly uncle after 1/1/18? or will they check to see I don't own a .25 caliber firearm and not sell thinking it's a straw purchase?

Please advise if you know the answer.

he was trying to tell you how to get ammo and bend the law. A lot of brig bunnies on here are good at that (LOL)

there is an exception to the upcoming background checks allowing you to give ammo to a spouse or immediate family member. but immediate family member is defined as parent/child or grandparent/child. so you could give ammo to the uncle's parents (your grandparents) who could then give it to your uncle (their son).

but since your uncle is 80, i'm assuming his parents are probably deceased and that plan won't work.

since your uncle doesn't have a car, my assumption is that he only shoots when you take him to the range with you? reason I ask is because there is another exception for ammo purchased at a range, as long as it is not removed from the range. so my advice would be to buy him enough self defense/SHTF ammo right now, put it into ammo cans with desiccant and instruct him to not use it for target practice. then when you go to the range, you or your uncle can buy ammo without background checks for target practice at that range.

There is no current indication that owning a firearm that uses the ammo purchased is a requirement. Owning some firearm, such that the ammo-buyer has an entry in AFS is the criterion.

Would I be surprised to discover that CA-DOJ then infers the buyer has a firearm to match the ammo? Nope. Would I be surprised if CA-DOJ were to add that info to AFS for the buyer? Again, nope.

I doubt that the doj cares what ammo you buy. The goal is to make it easy to buy and people stop buying. Then they use the new statistics to say "California does not sell a lot of ammo so its ok if we ban it altogether" .
