So, last night I went online and purchased 3 standard magazine release buttons for some ARs I'm converting to featureless. What are my chances I will actually receive them here in CA?

Pretty high... my 15-22 has a standard ar mag release. Also have spare ar mag releases from lower parts kits

That will depend in part on where you ordered as some vendors are more CA friendly than others.

they should ship, how do they know what rifle these are going to be used for?

they could be for your preban COLT AR15 from 1985, perfectly legal to buy the part.

lots of people at the range assume your shooting a current AR type rifle, but on close inspection it could be one of the earlier models from over 30 years ago in a different class as current AR types.

i agree that it should be fine. even before the featureless vs registration nonsense went into effect, when i purchased "ca legal" lower parts kits most vendors would just charge an extra $20, throw a bullet button into the free state kit and not remove the standard magazine release.

even when a bullet button was required, it was only for centerfire rifles... so if you were building an AR chambered in 22LR, you could have always used a standard mag release.
