I am in the market for an AR10 or Bolt action rifle. I think I finally decided on a Ruger precision bolt action in 6.5cm. additionally I wouldn't mind picking a middle of the line AR10 if the right deal comes up.
Randomly I get a message on facebook from David Chong at A/O sword. He asked if I wanted to come by A/O sword for a AR10 for black friday and that he had heard I was in the market for one. He even offered to have his store build me a custom gun. Not sure how he heard about my interest but I am assuming it's because I commented on a few other gun store pages asking pricing on AR10s.
So I asked for a round about price on a decent AR10 or ruger precision. I also explained to him that last year I had gone to his store and had a bad experience. I was turned away for gunsmithing and treated poorly when I wanted to upgrade my SP01 with the pro package from CGW. I wasn't upset that they were busy and couldn't take on work I was disappointed that I was told they weren't interested in helping me and were pretty rude about it. I kindly explained to David that due to that experience I probably wouldn't be interested in having his shop build me a custom gun but I might be interested in buying the parts from his store and assembling one myself or just buying a pre assembled AR10.
I didn't say this to him but I mean who turns down work? If you have to put a four month lead time go ahead but to tell me you aren't interested in even helping me and to take my business elsewhere, this gives a pretty negative impression in my mind coupled with the rude way it was delivered.
David fires back with a response saying he personally told his staff not to accept anymore work and that he stood by their way of treating me. I am not one to complain about much but I was just under the impression he would have cared about why I had never gone back to his store and often drove farther other stores just because I appreciate the better service. Somehow being a christian came up in his rhetoric and he claimed that being a good christian meant he couldn't take on more work at that point. He then proceeded to tell me that his reviews are stellar and all he hears is how great his store is. He claims that he is the premier CZ retailer on the west coast and that I must be mistaken about my experience.
Well Needless to say I was surprised at his response. I appreciate when an owner sticks up for their employees and I applaud his desire to do so however this is not the approach I would have expected, after all I was just sharing an experience. Conversation takes a twist and shortly after this he states his manager was addicted to cocaine and another coworker committed suicide over all of this incident. Not sure what that had to do with my experience however he claimed I must have been dealing with him. Either way the conversation just kept getting worse. I explained I was simply trying to give him an honest experience with his staff. I wasn't trying to get anything out of him and I had nothing to gain out of telling him my experience. I stated perhaps I did deal with his manager.
Long story short I was told he stands by the way I was treated, he knew from the beginning of the conversation I was the problem and not his staff (the same cocaine addicted suicidal staff mind you) He then continued to tell me that his reviews are amazing and that I was obviously not a good christian and quoted some scripture calling me a liar and a dishonest person.
At this point I was blown away. How did my candid honest experience with his shop make me out to be a liar and a bad christian? I am still confused how that happened not to mention why religion even was involved in an unsolicited conversation from him about me buying a gun from his store. He approached me, I relayed my previous experience with his staff and explained why I had never gone back to his store and hoped he would have heeded it. I further explained that I am not the only one that has had bad experiences with his store and other calgunners have steered me away from his store in the past. in spite of all of this I was still willing to give him a chance and buy from his store but his nasty approach led me to see that this is how he treats customers and I would no longer want to buy anything from him. Further more I would give an accurate review about my conversation with him.
This is where it gets good. David states: "Post a negative comment about me or my business and see what happens to yours buddy" He then blocks me and disappears.
So to recap: This guy messages me on facebook, unsolicited mind you, asking me to buy from him. I tell him I had a bad experience once and was a little wary but would give it a try. He tells me I am wrong, brags about himself and then tells me I am a bad christian and proceeds to threaten me personally.
Make your own assumption if needed but I would not do business with David or A/O sword and now have to fear for my safety from a guy who owns a gun store.
I have the screen shots saved if any mods need proof. I really can't believe it, I am still blown away. I was just enjoying a nice morning with my wife watching TV before work. I am glad there are plenty of other good gun stores in the area. The guy is probably a member on here so no offense if I don't respond to a message. I now need to watch who I interact with according to him.
