So in case anyone did not know starting January 1st, 2018 it will be more difficult to purchase ammo. You will not be able to just go down to your LGS and pick up a case of ammo. Every time you purchase ammunition in California you will be subjected to a background check, just like if you were buying a gun (this is gonna create a lot of reloader's and create a black market of ammunition). If you wish to purchase ammo online, the ammo will need to be sent to an FFL for a background check, I have no idea how much they will be charging. There are a bunch of other rules and regulations, and CRPA and NRA have filed a lawsuit opposing Prop 63, but I am not going to get into the laws and politics.
The jist of this thread is to let everyone know you should be stocking up as it will become more of a hassle and more expensive to purchase ammo in 2018. I have found that buying ammo online, even after shipping costs, is the least expensive way to get manufactured ammo. I want to give you all somewhere to start.
I have found Ammo Supply Warehouse to have the best all around pricing. Shipping is decent and even after you add on shipping it is less expensive than most places. They have gotten a lot of my business and I am still going to buy some 44 mag from them before years end.
Some places are even offering free shipping to California in earnest of prop 63.
Cabelas is offering free shipping to Cali on purchases over $99, code is CALAMMO.
Ammunition Depot is offering the same promotion, code is ENDPROP63.
I'm sure there are other places offering similar special offers so be sure to check if the place you are ordering from does or does not offer free shipping before you purchase. Sometimes you have to be on their mailing list to get the codes.
I have also been using Ammoseek.com to find the best deals. They don't have all the places that sell ammo online and there are other ammo finding websites, but I have found Ammoseek is a good place to start.
Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with any of the above mentioned companies. I am just a regular shooter who wishes to support the second amendment and help out my community, the shooting community as we have been coined.
(I know some people don't like it being called that but in these times we need to stick together and if the rest of the public sees us as a community than I believe that is a positive thing. And if we act like a community we have that much more political influence.)
Also, I plan to reload every brass case I empty so I will be getting into reloading once what I have dies up.
