Do I need a ffl dealer to buy my friends bolt action?

I am going to buy my friends win model 70 30-06. Do I need to go to a ffl and do all the paper work and bs, or is it leal for me to just buy it off him?

You need to DROS it at your local FFL ($35 total) to be completely legit. Only C&R is cash and carry...

Thanks. So we both go down there and do the transfer? Do I still have to wait 10 days?

If you are going on a trip and are worried about having the gun with you, I believe your friend can legally loan the gun to you for 30 days - then you can officially DROS it when you get back - if that is why you are concerned about the 10 day wait. But I don't know that for sure - so do a search for "legally loaning a rifle" or something like that...
