If you hit a certain level they have to report it to the state. This is due to the state wanting to know if people have been exposed to lead at work. If your blood level is too high they will check with your employer to see if it is work related.

I had mine checked due to reloading and exposure to primer dust. It was ok.

I hit 42 on their little scale. 5 micrograms per deciliter being normal.

The only place you can find leaded gas these days is at the airport.

I worked at Lindbergh Field at the time. Much excitement was had by all.
      It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

42 is a lot. I was around 4.5 just slightly above normal.

I went from 19 or 16 mcg/dl (normal range is less than 10) in 2015 to 6 mcg/dl in 2016 by wearing n95 mask when I shoot indoors.

This year the normal range changed to less than 5 and I got 5 mcg/dl so it was considered high.

I recommend wearing masks at indoor ranges, and the state will call your primary doctor about the source.

I have my doctor check for lead in my lab work for my yearly physical as I do a lot of lead casting, but most of my shooting is at out door ranges.

There are more relevant things to worry about in life.

Like handling lead fishing weights. Has California outlawed those here yet?

think I will do that this year for my physical. I used to do a lot of bullet casting in the old days, in the garage without ventilation. But I also lead cars and have done lead bodywork my whole life, at first without ventilation, now always with ventilation and a fresh air system. I go to the docs in 3 weeks, I will ask for lead test, I didn't know it could be done.

I would only worry about it when you get an overwhelming urge to vote for a democrat in any election. When this happens, consider a whole body transfusion or, if on a budget, a good leeching!

Get the test done. In all likelihood it will come back normal but it's better to know than to bury your head in the sand.

I just had the test done, mostly to eliminate lead exposure as the possible cause of a spike in blood pressure. It came back fine.

I only shoot outdoors but I've been handling a lot of range brass and spent primers. I try to wear robber gloves when I can and I'm already pretty obsessive about washing my hands.

Think of all of those many thousands of rounds of lead 22 bullets you loaded as a kid not to mention the lead pellets, fishing sinkers, lead paint, lead toys, Lead toothpaste tubes, lead pipes for water, leaded gas ect ect. We are still here with no exessive lead in our systems. Be happy!
