I own several BNIB all steel handguns that I'd like to store long term (many years). To protect them, I'm thinking of storing them in a silicon sock, with each handgun vacuum packed. Has anyone done this, and is there any down side? Would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks

Long Term Gun Storage

Coat them in RIG inside and out, store in a bore stores sleeve with
Desiccant. The downside to vacuum packing is the inability to inspect it, which you should do annually at the very least.
I have a pair of WW2 German pistols that were coated in axle grease and wrapped up in a towel from 1945-2015 and they were in perfect condition when I received them. The veteran stored them away once he returned from the war and they were never disturbed until his estate was sold off.

I have stored a few in "poly Bags" for 10+ years. The one that gc94 posted will also work well. They both use VCI technology and after a year I toss in "Inhibitor chips" to renew/upgrade the VCI in the bags. This is partly because I have opened the bag for one reason or another. I did not need to open them I just did to show someone the firearm for example.
If you are interested in any of this PM me and I will get you websites and such.A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.
