"Next Generation" rifles look like ****ty space guns to anyone else?

Was sitting there looking at the Tavor, Scar, g36, arx160, and the Chinese rifle and they all seem to have a similar sillouette

Seems like all the gun brands go through something similar in the auto industry where all the rifles look similar. (Ar-70, galil, fal)

Pretty soon we will all be buying stationary bikes to recharge our laser rifles for cheap.

They said the same thing about the M-16/AR-15 back in the 60's.

      Function over form I say.

I do admit my own prejudice against polymer lowers/receivers for a combat zone rifle though, although for police or domestic use it is a good idea.

The reason is that efficiency is beholden to the physical form of humans, and the physical rules that govern the function of firearms.

In short, humans are mostly the same, and physics are uniform. Therefore a ergonomic, high performance rifle can really only look and function in one way at peak efficiency.

Cars are looking uniform because the goverment fuel economy standards and all cars drive around meeting wind resistance in the same atmosphere.

I bought my Hi-Point Carbine because the "Space gun" look appealed to me.

one one hand I agree. On the other hand, I could possibly see the benefit of shaving a few extra pounds from my gear if I had to carry it for a week straight through the desert.

Except in California they will only allow you to buy one brand of bike that takes three times as long to charge the gun and records an imprint of your sit bones and a retina/rectal scan so they know who is charging the rifle. And you can only legally ride it for 10 minutes each first Tuesday of the month. And you can't loan your bike to a friend so they can charge their own rifle. And if you build your own stationary bike, it must be serialized, registered and have dimensionally compliant cranks (which are really short, making it rediculously difficult to pedal).

Space guns look better in the back window of a space ship.
