"Addicted" is not the only key phrase in the 4473 form you fill out.

                    "User of" is also there.
(Edibles, etc. are also prohibited by the feds., MJ card from a state means zip.)

Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana, or any depressant, stimulant, or narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?

It is not recommended to lie on a federal form, so please understand the full requirement.
I am not implying you will tell an untruth, just making it clearer.

                        Welcome to Calguns.

I forget the name of it but there's a form you can fill out for the state government and for a few bucks you can find out whether you'll will be denied for firearm purchases, without actually buying any firearms.

That way you don't mess up any transaction (where you're buying an actual firearm) where if you get denied, which can lead to lots of hassles for both you and the seller... and even the gun store dealing with the transaction.

Because at that point you paid for the gun, waited the 10 days for your ability to pick it up and the seller has got his money so the seller can just walk away.

But if the gun store has got confirmation from the state that you're denied they can't give the gun to you.
The gun store sometimes tries to get it back to the original owner And then you're out all the money you paid for it.
Etc. etc. .... pain in the *** for everyone and you could be potentially out hundreds of dollars with no legal way to recover it.

The name of that form is on the tip of my tongue but it's early in the morning so I can't think of it, hopefully someone here will have a working brain.

As Sealocan says, be careful if unsure.

For one thing, if you do not check your status in advance before buying, make sure the LGS (new gun) does not charge a high re-stocking fee if you fail DROS.

Private sellers have many different philosophies about refunds, esp. if they have to go out of their way for a sale.
