Confused about overall length for a rim fire?

Ive been reading about the GSG folding stocks and every one seems to elude to an over all length of 26 inches. I was under the assumption in CA it was over 30 inches is it different for rim fires? Awaiting my enlightenment and thank you.

26 inches with stock fully folded/collapsed for rimfire rifles. 30 inches with stock fully folded/collapsed for centerfire rifles.

      FYI about the GSG5...

The MP5 style collapsable stock on a GSG5 is over 26", making it legal. About 26.5"-27", depending on manufacturer.

The UMP/PDW folding stock on a GSG5 is under 26", making it illegal (CA SBR violation). About 25"-25.5", depending on manufcturer.

        To give the legal reasoning...

The only thing prohibited in the penal code at a length greater than 26", which is the minimum to not be an SBR, is a semi-automatic, centerfire rifle, which must be longer than 30". As such, bolt action, lever action, and single-shot centerfire rifles along with all rimfire rifles are set at 26" or longer.

I don't believe there is any folding stock right now that meets the lenght requirement when folded. The adjustable stocks meet oal requirement but I read that some brands are a tad short of 26" so make sure you get one that will meet oal. More info can be found at ar15.com under the gsg5 subforum

Not to mention a violation of federal law as well.

Feds measure with the stock open/extended.

The GSG5 with UMP/PDW style folding stock is not a Federal SBR violation due to the way the Feds measure.

Yes there is a folding stock that meets the requirement. I picked it up from ezoptic at the Cow Palace Gun Show and they basically had one manufactured with a 1" longer coupler so it meets the 26" requirement.

I didn't really like the other stuff I got from them, but the folder is good. I had to do some of the usual filing/ sanding to get it to fit.
